NIMBY vs RV Park in Orting, Washington
The opening salvo on spending $255k for a 10 acre lot to build an 86 space rv park.the owner proposed stays up to 180 days. I like the idea of a park close enough to walk to the shopping areas. But I can understand the current residents views.

I look at this way. If i own property and someone expresses plan to buy nearby property to build something I do not want nearby, I'll be buying that property from them, then It will be mine so I have a say what may be built there.
Look up that street address on Google maps and you get an entirely different perspective.

Too late to edit my reply. I would think the high school administration would speak up if they considered a major concern with -semi-permanent RV's nearby.

Heres the problem as I see it locally and almost everywhere we have been. you have a privet campground that lets people stay monthly up to 6 months or more. most of the campsites are going to be rented by low income people that can live in a T/T relatively cheep. now nothing wrong with this, but soon there's an old car that won't run or that old boat with a flat tire on the trailer. soon there's a pile of stuff around the outside soon it looks like a dump site. the campground owners don't do anything about it because that's income they need.

Yeah, a free market has some downsides.

I think there are some tax laws that change when a person stays in one place for more than 180 days in Washington. We shopped for a site to buy up there and they all had a 6 month limit. Some folks would buy 2 sites so they could alternate gate cards to avoid the limit. I don't remember the specific details of the logic behind the law for a 180 day limit.
The real problem is the RV parks that become permanent residence parks and deteriorate as a result. Folks just don't want to live beside those kinds of facilities. I can't explain the social reasons for that but it's just a fact and I have to agree with them. I don't even like staying in a "residential" RV park for just a few nights. I wouldn't want one in my back yard either.
Maybe this one won't turn into that but statistics seem to indicate it's more likely than not.

Tax laws or zoning laws? I think most zoning laws restrict the stay when the property is zoned for recreational camping vs. permanent living.

The free market should determine who uses land and for what purpose. If somebody does something with their land that affects your land you're free to move. If you lose money on the deal, well, that's capitalism in action; sometimes it works for you and sometimes it doesn't.

your right, but here a recreational zoned camping area lets permanent living and it never gets checked or enforced.

NIMBY has been around as long as ICBM silos.
