Has anyone heard about the end of analog tv next year?

Any tvs that dont have internal digital tuners wont pick up free channels with the antenna starting Feb 2009 unless a convetor box is purchased.

All tvs built from 2007 forward by law will have the digital tuner built in and some older tvs have it and some dont.

So we better all check our tvs. If you have a stamp that reads " digital tuner built in" then you are good to go.

Steve, I am confused between the subject of your post and the content of your post. If I have a TV with the stamp "digital tuner built in" I am ok. If I don't have that type of TV and choose to buy a converter box I am ok. Where is the no more free TV? Ken,'04 DSDP....

If you have cable or satellite, you will not be affected. It still may not happen, as some stations are still not ready for digital transmission.

If you are going to continue to use non cable non sat tv you'll still get it for free after Feb 09 if you have a digital tuner or a set top box. Still free, you just need the equipment to watch.

Steve You will still get (free) tv It just will not be in anolog signal anymore It will be digital which will give you a nicer picture to watch and sound clearer .If you don't have a tv with the proper receiver then you can google free converter box and sign up for a card worth 40.$ on the puchase of a 40$ converter ? yes it is for realThere are only so many coupons so go in and sign up And by the wayWe the tv veiwing public have been bombarded with ads and psa's about this subject

I see Steve is from our northern neighbor. The dtv2009.gov site only allows for addresses in the United States, so he won't be able to apply for the coupon on that site.

What do those folks in Canada do about the digital tv switch? I'm sure they get programs broadcast from our side of the border.

Just like j2detoit, practically every commercial break here in central OH has a psa about the switch-over to digital tv. I thought being bombarded with political ads during an election year was bad.

If there is a label on your tv that states you have an internal tuner then you dont need the converter box.

If my tv doesnt have it I think I might buy a new tv rather then dealing with another box.

Saw an add today about this for the first time.

Guess my little 5 inch plug in the lighter tv will be history.

And it is not a digital tuner, but a tuner which receives digital signals. TVs have had digital tuners for years now. It's the signal and frequency that is different. And Steve, don't throw that old set away. 2,4, and 7 out of Buffalo might just pull off getting a extention and not go digital like the rest of the country. WNY and central NY pulled off that one with the green gas so they might just do it with TV too.

These labels or markings may contain the words "Integrated Digital Tuner,"¯ "Digital Tuner Built-In,"¯ "Digital Receiver,"¯ or "Digital Tuner,"¯ "DTV,"¯ "ATSC,"¯

Steve,
You still have not explained the reason for posting "no more free tv after feb 2009" as your topic. Since it is blatantly false I was curious why you used these words. The digital TV tuner and converter box has been discussed over and over again on the forum.
After 2009 there will be exactly the same amount of free TV as there was before 2009. The only thing that is changing is the equipment necessary to receive it.

Bill I thought it was explained quite clearly by some of the replies in this post.

Bunny rabbit ears tv will continue to be free after the purchase of a converter box ( or free with coupon) or the purchase of a new tv.

I will give the subject line more thought in the future. Thanks for pointing this out to me.

It has been passed as law and not likely to be rescinded for a couple TV stations. The conversion technology is readily available and the Feds are not going to feel sorry for stations that don't comply.
