Depends on their rules. If the rule says no refunds, then I don't stay there.

Try reaching out to the credit card company to get involved. Did they offer a voucher for a future stay?

The cancellation policy can usually be found on their website or your confirmation.

I got caught up on one for $600. He did work with me on a 90 day extension as long as I gave 4 weeks notice of reschedule. I played by his request, rescheduled, spent 2 days driving from Phx to Austin, the morning of our arrival day got a text from him, he cancelled me due to prior site owners getting COVID and were staying put. He did refund but I was left hanging trying to find a new place to stay. On the 6th rv park I called, luckily they had an opening for me to stay for a month. It worked out but could have been trouble.

I read their website on 10/2/20 made the reservation on 10/20/20 they said they updated their website on 10/12/20 real convenient. the conformation letter says it on there, but that is after payment I feel like its just a money grab, very possible due to covid with all the cancellations

Is it possible to sell your reservation to someone else.

Sell it to a Canadian Snowbird...that way they have a spot in FL and can get the COVID Vaccine while there in FL

I read the rules and if there is such a restrictive cancellation policy, I take my money elsewhere. Some of the park owners are just money hungry and can get by with it as there are an abundance of customers.

I would send a certified letter, return receipt requested to FL Attorney General, consumer fraud section, if they have one.....outlining your problem. Copy to the RV park. Copy to your home state Attorney General. Anyone I forgot....?

As I recall, a contract is valid only if both parties sign and date.

And the offending park is? Inquiring minds would like to know. I can see a penalty if not cancelled in a reasonable time but 45 day is well within a reasonable time $1,500 is a really, really steep penalty. Sorry to hear this happened but maybe you can help out others but spilling the beans.

This is starting to pop up more often. I make a habit of talking to park owners when we travel. Many state that cancellations are getting to be more frequent. And that was before Covid.

We paid $500 many months in advance for a spot in AZ. this winter.
No refunds period.
Many of the park owners said they always gave refunds for death or family sickness, fire or breakdown but the term I heard a few times was the new RVers were just calling and saying we need to cancel and no reasons given were becoming the norm. Some owners stated they were tired of guaranteeing guests a site and having to scramble when they canceled.

I do not agree they should keep the full amount but perhaps a portion.
I know I have been traveling via RV for 30 years and only cancelled 1 reservation in that time and I gave 30 days notice.

If the OP mentions the name of the park the thread turns into Vendor Dispute and our Community Rules do not permit this. The park happened to change their policy after the OP looked at their website but before they made the reservation. Nobody likes to lose their deposit but if the website stated this at the time the reservation was made it’s not the Parks fault. This thread serves a great purpose showing all of us to be more careful when reserving a spot.

From our Community Rules

“Customer Disputes
This forum is not intended to be a mechanism for people to solely vent frustrations about services, products, vendors, or sales. Please settle your differences with the seller, provider, manufacturer, or dealer through other means but not through our community.”

There are web crawling services that archive websites and have point in time copies. You could try this one, to see if they have a snapshot around 10/12/20 reflecting the change - https://archive.org/web/.

I doubt they get everything, but maybe you can confirm the posted change of policy.

Also, while frustrating, I’m starting to understand the policy changes as many park owners are getting shafted by last minute cancellations.
