Observations of a campground owner

I found this very interesting. Hopefully you will too!

I agree with Allen in the video, that many people just don't think about or realize how some of their actions cause problems for others. Of course as he also mentioned, there are quite a few bumholes these days that think they can do what they want no matter how disrespectful it is.

Hard to tell with today's "me" society but that video might actually get through to a few that watch it.

Every RV owner and even tent campers should view this. It may wake someone up! I totally agree with him when he said social media has changed people and not for the better.

I've been in the Hospitality business for over 30 years, much of it as a teacher and mentor. The rise of the Social Media Influencer has darkened a number of worlds, but it seems especially prevalent in my industry. These folks try to use their self-created celebrity as both carrot and stick, trying to get free stuff through "free advertising" or "I can triple your business" tactics, to writing scathing mean-spirited "reviews" if their generous offer is turned down or they feel slighted in any way.

We stand at a unique time for society and social norms. With the influx of new campers, we have an interesting situation where campgrounds are a mix of older folks (over 50) and younger folks, each with different expectations and approaches to communication. For the over 50 crowd, like me, we grew up without the World Wide Web (does anyone even call it that anymore?), we learned how to interact and communicate socially in a very direct, face-to-face manner. Not so with the "tech native" generations that have always known instant communication and have a literal world at their fingertips. We have a fundamentally different approach to a number of things, and neither group interacts well with each other on this level. I send emails concerning assignments, only to learn most under 30 don't check email as much as text messages or other methods. Email is somewhat "old-fashioned." Imagine that.

Good manners and respect should always be in effect. Do unto others and all that.

"That's the fact, Jack!" (from the movie "Stripes!). I agree with the owner of the campground as well as the couple interviewing him. Far too many people have lost respect for the rights of others. When social media was first evolving, I thought it had the potential to be a great vehicle for communication and meaningful discussion. After a few years, I was no longer a fan and signed off of Facebook. In my humble opinion, the politics of our country during the last decade or longer has contributed to very negative environment where people feel they don't have to respect the rights of others and this is not only in regards to politics, but just day to day life. The Covid pandemic has made the situation even worse and I believe that we, has a population in whole, are suffering tremendously and it is contributing to so many folks being somewhat depressed.

But....that's enough said. Thanks for sharing the link and it was an interview that every camper/rv traveler needs to see.

A buddy developed a 50 site CG on 8 acres
Opened the doors for business in OCT 2007
Had 1/2 Sheet of rules/regulations
***Very common sense items

By the end of 2011 the Rule/Regulations was 2 full sheets.

Asked "What Happened?"

He and his Wife's replay
"You Can NOT Fix Stupid...Lord How we tried!"

That 2 page list has be reworked with bold print/notations/highlighting

They are so fed up with the 'public' they want to SELL

Same thing happened at Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore where we volunteered 9 seasons.

Started off with a few common sense rules and ended up with lots more because some people don't have common sense.

They came there because the campground and restrooms were beautiful and clean. What they did at times was horrible.
