I read an article in our local paper discussing possibility of OH state parks charging a $5 parking fee. Guess my taxes & camping fees aren't enough anymore. I only hope it'll go to upgrading the restroom facilities - several of the parks need it.

I guess we should have been going to Ohio all these years.
In MI it's a $6.00 charge and has been for some time. In IN it's $5.00 for us $4.00 for residents.
IN justs charges it for one time each camping visit, in our state of MI it's best to buy an annual pass as they charge that fee for each day of your visit.

It appears there is a virus spreading from state to state with those fees.
Washington State Parks started charging a $5 use fee two years ago, now going on their third. The annual pass is $50. Camping fees are completely different and includes any use fees during the camping period. Should you want to tour our park and or use the restroom, they allow about 15 minutes without having to pay the fee.

Last night's evening news reported similar fee increases for NYS Parks. There were no details but I'll bet it will and entrance fee so they can nail everyone. Highway tolls are also being increased so we can get you folks from Ohio trying to get to Massachusetts.
Last year it was hunting and fishing licenses along with a host of other things.
There's a nasty rumor going round that they are contemplating an exit fee to insure that none of us can escape by moving out.
Gotcha coming and going
Added info:
This morning's news states that the above is in the governor's "Budget Proposal" and is being debated "right down party lines". The problem is his proposal is multi millions in deficit so there will be increases in fees, taxes or arm and leg amputations. If you have a few bucks to invest throw it at anyone who manufactures tourniquets.

Mike has got that right. 6 billion budget deficit to be balanced. Add increased registration fees to the list. 25 % for most vehicles including commercial but 75 % for "heavy" passenger vehicles- read MH. Politicians can say we didn't raise taxes but oh my goodness, the fees have gone out of sight. We pay more for the state parks with no hookups at all than many states charge for w/e hookups.

I can understand the parking fee. Maumee State Park on Lake Erie has beach and inland lakes used by thousands of people during the summer and they pay nothing. We as campers pay to use the parks, thru site fees, I always have felt everyone should pay to use the parks to maintain them, if that is what the money will be used for.

Cakeman and Mrs. Cakeman -
I agree! We also utilize the Ohio State Park Campgrounds, and I think all users should "chip in" and pay their fair share. Do like Michigan and offer a yearly membership fee of $25 for those of you (or us) that use it more often.

According to the information that I have read you can purchase a yearly sticker for $25.00. If you have a Golden Buckeye Card, the cost will be $20.00.
They are still holding hearings and the effective date has not been decided, but I would expect that it will be in place by the summer.
Camping fees will still remain in place.

Just the start I am afraid. I can set up in a comercial campground for less than it now costs in most Texas State Parks.
