Forget the drain pans, too much work and there will always be spillage while transferring the oil. Just buy the Fumoto valve for the drain plug. I slide old DEF containers or previously used 2.5 gallon oil containers under the Fumoto valve, open and fill the container. Swap out a another container when the first one is full. I have a "filter pliers" that I use to remove my oil filter and fuel filter/water separator that I purchased from Advanced Auto Parts --> https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/...cialty%20Tools

I do like the idea of adding a Fumoto oil drain valve and then using "jugs" to capture the old oil. Removing the drain plug creates a descent "oil flow velocity" from the oil pan that helps carry any sediment out of the oil pan. Does a Fumoto drain valve flow at the same rate as when the plug is removed?

Probably not 100% but the valve does have a rather large opening when opened

If it is a Cat C-9 with the bottom drain the Fumoto part # is F104N

I have a side drain. The thread is 3/4" 16 that has a non recessed o-ring. CAT notes this as a type A.

I don't have any issues with the drain on the ISL, but the drain plug on the Kubota engine in the Onan 10KW is massive!
If you don't have your pan lined up, that 5 quarts is coming out in about 3 seconds!!

A C-9 holds 34 quarts so a 6 gallon container want work. I have a fumoto valve on my C-9 good idea, slow to drain and you don’t get it all out. I also only use cat filters and don’t forget to oil O ring on filter never had one to leak or get stuck.

I work in the W Texas oil fields, and I see Baldwin filters on probably 2/3 of the equipment. These machines are huge Diesel engines, hydraulic systems, etc, running wide open throttle for hours/days on end, rolling coal 50ft in the air( my God what a glorious sight), each one costing a million +/- dollars each. Don’t be afraid of Baldwin filters.

Well, if you find that a 3/4-16 drain valve will work, as rooster has indicated, besides the Fumoto, you could look at Valvomax.

We have the 3/4-16 T204N Fumoto on our C7 but are concerned with how low that is as we boondock almost 100% of the time. Interesting enough, today I see a warning now on their website warning of use on low positions. I don’t recall that when I bought it.

In any case, we are swapping that valve out with the valvomax unit.
We have it on hand, just haven’t installed yet. I think I will also install a small valve on the drain hose tool to control transfer from jug to jug.

If you really want to get fancy, add an electric pump, the type you put down the dipstick tube to the end of the Fumoto valve. That way you can sit behind the motor home and fill containers without even getting up from your chair.

We had a clearance issue on an older Chevy Suburban... the stock filter is 5.25 inches long. A smart parts man at a truck repair shop suggested switching to the long filter and not only did we have more filter area but it was easier to grab onto with the filter wrench.

454 big block stock filter:
Fram PH5, HP4, HP8 5 to 5.25 inches depending on brand

Long filter:
Fram PH373, Motocraft FL308, Hastings LF226, Wix 51061, Wix 51794, Napa 1794 ... all are 8 5/8 to 8 3/4 inches

So do a bit of research... if you have the clearance that allows the use of a longer filter then using that may make it easier for you to remove / replace.

Bonus tip: A filter made for a Datsun 71-73 model 1200 fits my 6.5NH Onan generator just fine, is an inch or two longer (i.e. more filtration area), cheaper, and available at most auto parts houses.
