Our 2005 trailer we pickup up late last year had a OE spare with a 2004 date code on it.

If you want to see some old tires watch Bus Grease Monkey on YouTube. He's worked on a few buses with very old tires.

I have a 2000 Volvo with 2004 tires, Talked to a DOT inspector and he said the aging out of RV tires is just a sales pitch by tire salesmen and and a friend of mine is an over the road trucker for about 30 years and he said if I change them out he will run them, they look brand new. for my piece of mind they are the next thing to be replaced

Ask him if he’ll put those 17 year old tires in the steer position.

Everyone has an opinion. The tire manufacturers have engineers and lawyers. Michelin, for one, tells us to remove the tires from service after a maximum of 10 years. They obviously don’t have enough confidence in them holding up past that point. I have confidence that that they might understand their product.

I agree with you, New tires are expensive but the lives that are put in danger if (When) those out dated tires blow is unmeasurable. New tires are cheep then. Don't know where he would put them but I am going to do him a favor and not give them to him

I have a friend that is a retired Tire Design Engineer from GoodYear. The products he worked on in his career were Special Tires and Commercial Tires. He told me the chance of having a failure greatly go's up with age and tires that have experience over loading, under inflated, driven to fast, or dry rot.

I had a blowout in 1989 with a TT. It took out both my drain lines and had me on the side of the road for a few hours. I'm thinking a blowout in a MH: front would be near loss of steering and maybe damage to a basement compartment. Rear: most likely damage to a basement compartment.

For me its just make sense to play it safe.

Truckers use those tires on Trailers duals , Heavy steel wheel well trailers and other than a mud flap there would be no damage. Other than a delay, a non event. Had many a commercial trailer tire blowout in my years. You should see the junk on many of those old trailers. The tire company you leave them with or turn them in to for "recycle" will sell them (at a nice profit) for that same purpose.

Just had a look at a '00 Class A Winnebago today. Could see two tire codes that were XX00) so I presume those have to be original tires.

Walk around boat trailers at a ramp. Not sure how 1/2 of them made to the lake.

They live close to/on the lake.
