On Off lp valve leaking

I have a 1997 fleetwood pace arrow (Ford).

Just got back from a 5 day camping trip. While there I opened the lp valve and gas came out from around the valve. So I closed and opened it again and same thing. Has anyone had this problem?

Some valves have packing nuts under the knob that can be snugged up to stop that leak while opening.

If you open the valve completely, the leak should stop. The valve backseat, sealing the leak.

That's only if the valve stem was leaking.

A cracked or loose fitting is another thing.

Pretty sure the packing nut is left hand threads as well. Tighten it about 1/4 turn .Run the stem in and out a few times to break the packing in and another 1/8 at a time or so repeat, until you feel some added resistance from the packing . Test with soapy water. Mine would spit just right at last turn open.

Mine did the same thing for the first time this trip. Opening it all the way to stop and snugging it up very tight slowed it down to a very tiny leak which in a few hours completely stopped. It would happen on a full tank so when the level gets used down, I'll have a propane company change out the valve.

As mentioned these valves are designed to seal against the back seat when fully open, and should never be left partly open. Either fully turn off, or fully open against the back seat.

When I fully open it, its stops but I do not get any propane to the boiler or my stove. What gives?

Close the Valve......wait 30 seconds then SLOWLY open fully
*May have tripped an excess flow device which when tripped limits flow to minimum

Also it can take a little while to establish flow/full pressure after propane system has been valved out/unused

Curious....
Does your LP Line from Tank have a Solenoid before the Main LP Regulator?
IF yes....check that is has DC Power...LP Detector working?

IF you have the shutoff solenoid, then it is tripped. LP Detector sends DC to solenoid to hold it open
Bad/Expired or tripped LP Detector>>>>>>>
