ON THE GO MAP is Awesome App
Just discovered this app for Windows 8 for my laptop. It shows elevation and % grade . Awesome app for RV owners. Knowing the % grade on back highways helps route planning. Lets you plan around some of those white knuckle drives in the mountains & steep hills.
Check it out here.

Wow, great app and free. Love that you can see the road grade along a route. Its a Google Chrome app so as long as you have Chrome browser loaded it works on Apple or Windows products. Nice find!

But doesn't that take all the fun out of "what's around the next curve?"

OK if you want to lug around a laptop. If it doesn't work on my iPad or iPhone while traveling - not going to have it (and this doesn't work on either).

If you have an Android device, try "Elevation Profile". It's rated 4.4/5 stars and it's free also.
I'm sure you Apple guys have a similar app available.
Bill Dean, I don't lug my laptop around either. I do trip planning on my 17" laptop that stays on my computer table in the motorhome. If I need altitude info on my phone, I use the Elevation Profile app.

You already have 2 different browsers on your laptop, no big deal to add a 3rd. Google Chrome is a nice lightweight browser perhaps better than Firefox. Certainly better than IE.
