Try the seafoam stuff. You may need a few cans of it.

If the carb is gummed up, the treatment may clean out. Running the gas out and filling with new probably won't fix it, because the damage is already done.

Don't store your generator for more then 1 month with gas in the carburator.

1, Run it every 30 days to burn out the old gas in the carb before it starts to gum up. ( small amounts of gas in a carb evaporate, leaving behind the gummy stuff )

2, Disconnect the fuel pump or gas line and let the generator until it stalls out. That gets the gas out of it. Then you can store it long term. ( Generator manufactures warn of moisture issues long term, but that hardly ever happens. If its stored far from home, you can't run it )

When I know that I'm not going to need my generator for over a month, I run the gas tank below 1/4 tank on one of my trips.
Once below 1/4 , I start the generator and let it run out of gas.
After it stalls out, I can fill the gas tank but just don't start the generator, and its good for long term storage.

You can also add Stabil to your gas tank which will help. That's what I use, and with regular generator exercise as already outlined you should be ok once past this challenge.

Good Luck

Karen try a couple cans of Seafoam first. Our unit is only going on it's second full time summer. We stored it over the last 2 winters. Before storing I add some Stabil then in the spring add Seafoam before I even start it.

Those generators are kind of famous for failed electric fuel pumps. They will usually display the symptoms you describe. Fuel pumps are available on Amazon for around $35. If you replace it be sure to change the fuel filter too.

I never had much faith in a "mechanic in a can" solution.

I doubt if 6 month old gas is causing you any problems.

Went to ocean shores this weekend. Added Heet and Seafoam before left.
Then ran generator 2x for over 2 hrs and all went great. Hopefully this has fixed the issue.

Everyone was so great with their comments . Think I luv this site.
