Oregon Coast dweller now..

..still not RVing, but went to the Charleston Oregon Clam Festival week before last, and met a neat couple from back East. I hope to hear from them again, they are fairly new to full-timing, but I did have a great time meeting them.

I wanted to see if anyone was around that is in or near me on the coast, as it would be fun to meet more of you. I live near Charleston, Oregon, and spend a lot of time shooting photos up and down the area. I still hope for the chance to RV, but I am on a limited income, 61 now, and can't envision ever buying an RV, but you never know I suppose

Anyway, just here to get acquainted with folks again. Denise

I forgot to add that our weather changed just today, to overcast, but it has been amazing! Staying warm on through the night, warm enough to run around in shorts at night, LOL! Really unusual, as well as neat to have weather like this in the Coos Bay area

We will be traveling down the Oregon Coast in September. We're looking forward to the Coos Bay area. We are always open to hearing about places to camp... Preferably boondocking.

Have a great time on the coast. Here in Brookings now and moving back up to Lincoln City for a couple of months next month. Most likely stay in Charleston for a night on our way back up.

I don't know of any boondocking near the coast, but others may. I know inland, off I-5 then head East, there are places. Honestly though, there are many, homeless folks camping in these places, and yes, they are people too, and some good, some not so good. Be safe, smart, and this is coming from a non-worrier.

We just had a shooting near Bastendorf. I forget my home-State has the same horrific things going on, as places like LA and NY City. I think I've been sheltered a most of my life, or maybe looked the other way so I could think "it only happens elsewhere" but really, I'm sure we all know to protect ourselves as best we can.

I don't know which was sadder, the guy killing his father, or the innocent guy from back East that was just at a convention of some sort, and wanted to see the Pacific ocean.

Am hoping to make a trip back to that area in the spring and continue up to Washinton...wish I had gone this past summer, but life got in the way.

I think that if you do go RV traveling you will find that it is one of the safest ways there is to travel.

We were in the Coos bay area last month, stayed one night at the Casino CC. We then went to Ballards State Beach (about 18 miles south of Coos Bay), large full hook up sites, $26 a night, plenty of spots. It was about 90% family occupied. We had a great time there except for the last night.

A group of young adults pulled in after the Ranger shack closed, set up camp, and left first thing in the morning without paying. We knew this because they were talking loud and bragging about "how Stupid" the rangers were. They were a little obnoxious, drinking,playing their car stereos loud and urinating in the campground.

We didn't complain but kept our eyes on them, as I am well armed in my MH as I have a CCW(good in all states) so I wasn't too worried. After reading the prior article I guess I should have told the Camp Host to call the Rangers. We did that while witnessing a domestic violence situation in Pismo Beach in May. It was a group of homeless people camping out of an older MH. By the time the Rangers and local police got there 2 had been assaulted, 1 stabbed, and they ended up taking 5 people to jail. According to the camp host they have that problem because no resevations are required from Dec-May, and alot of homeless people occupy spots as long as they can.

Anyway I would go back to Ballards State Beach as it is a nice place, just keep my eyes open a little better.

For me, being alone RVing, which would most likely be the case, I would only stay in the most secure of the parks. Park Rangers patrolling, nosey camphosts (the only kind to have, really) they know what's going on, hear everything

Doesn't seem to matter where we go anymore, we have to watch out for ourselves. I don't get to RV yet, but I do hike fairly regular, and I go
where there are others hiking, and I also carry a taser. Can't even spell it right probably, but I'd use it, LOL! I won't be scared out of my beloved outdoors, that's for sure

Bullards is lovely, been there many times since I lived in Coquille for many years as well

People do that a lot in state parks....come in late and leave early. Saw it a lot at Cape Blanco. And even now with rangers on till 11 pm....it still happens. Happened at Bullards Beach last years also.

Mike I would be interested on Info for an all state CCW. Because to my knowledge they don't exist, as there are several states on the East Coast where just owning a firearm can be considered illegal.

I have seen it a lot when there are open Showers. People will pull in shower and then split. There are people who just think rules don't apply.
