Out with the old, in with the new!

Today I removed the Dometic fridge fom my motorhome. It was not very reliable or cold. We will never be where we don't have a hook-up or be able to use the generator (DW says so), so I decided to replace it with an electric.
After unhooking everything, capping and testing the gas line, we slid it out, removed the frame underneath, and set it down. It lacked 1/2 inch of clearing the entry door, so we lifted it over the driver's seat and out that door.
I had purchased an Avanti 7.5 cu. ft. electric and thought I would have to modify the cabinet, but the new one slid right in with room to spare. I will have to add some trim as opposed to modifying it. Plugged it in and it is cooling great.

I keep reading how the RV type absorption cooling units (Fridges) are "Never cold enough"

My Dometic, if I set it to it's coldest. freezes the milk. Don't know what your problem is.

This is not a problem this summer but if it is too cold out, yes too cold out, they don't work well (or so I'm told) after 7 years in the motor home I found the L.A.T. switch the day before yesterday.. They hid it well.

A lot of people do not understand the absorption refrigerators and as a result expect too much from them. Some are a problem, and when I have to replace ours, I am going to the Amish cooling unit. I like the versatility of the absorption unit.
