I will be traveling to the Ontario, California Road to California Quilt Show this week end. Does anyone know of a safe place in Barstow Ca. to camp overnight? Won't be for long, will get there very late and leave pretty early. Thanks Pati

I've been to Barstow a number of times but that was in the pre RV days and we stayed at motels so I can't advise you on campgrounds in the area. However, they do have a few large WallMart sized parking lots there and there is a FlyingJ truck stop which has overnight parking. If you are rolling in that late and leaving early you probably don't need hookups anyway and are just looking for a safe place to park. Maybe some of the other RVers out there who are more familiar with Barstow can help out.

Stay at the Flying J. It is easy to get to and I've stayed there on several occasions. There is a dump station, fresh water, fuel and propane. Several places to eat if hungary.

Too late for you Pati, but a fun place to camp is Calico, CA. Here's some info, more if you google Calico CA.

There's a large base there the Marine Corps Supply Depot. I was stationed there in 1957. There was a house trailer wrecked just on the junction of the road to Calico. We were held up by traffic and I glanced at the side of the road and Walter Knott was standing there. I won't explain who he is as he's in the pointer. Art

Thanks everyone. I went to the WalMart in Barstow just off the freeway and there was a vacant lot next door. About 15 RV's and 5 semi's were parked in the lot. Joined them and got a few hours of sleep. Came back through on the way home and did the same.

thanks, I for the reply but I have to avoid the large stations like Flying J because my daughter has severe asthma and the truck fumes are risky for her. Sometimes there is a large parking lot away from the trucks that I have used. Mostly I generaly opt for WalMart if there are other RV's there.

Thanks for the reply, it brought back memories. Years ago (40 at least)I visited Calico Ghost town with my husband. I'll bet it has changed! I would like to visit it again sometime. This trip was a quick one and I just needed a place to rest for a few hours on the way up and back.
