Question Patio Awning Shade Add-On

I was at a CG recently and say a motorhome with a screened shade that attached to the open channel of the RV’s patio awning roller tube. This one was unique, as only a small portion of the shade actually slid into the roller tube - the majority of the shade attached to that small section with a zipper, allowing the small section to be rolled up with the awning. The RV owner wasn’t home and I couldn’t see a name on the shade. Anyone know who makes these? I've searched the web and have come up empty.

Thanks.

Craig

I couldn't get ctpres' link to work but if you go Welcome to Sunpro Mfg and then clik on RV Awning Drops I think you will see what you are looking for.

Thanks guys. As Kix eluded to, the proper term for this product appears to be "Drop Shade with Zipper". So far, a company called ShadePro seems to have the best prices, along with free shipping on orders over $100.

Thanks.

Craig.....I bought a ShadePro years ago at Quartzsite. It works well, but there are some things you should know. The awning comes in two pieces, the section that stays in your awning arm and the longer section that zippers to it. The overall awning comes in different colors and sizes. First, you need to decide what horizontal length you want (obviously something shorter than the overall length of your awning arm). Second, you need to select a drop down length of the piece that stays in your awning when it rolls up. With my awning extended and on level ground, I ordered (for example) a drop down piece that is 8 inches. This means that while I'm standing under the awning, the drop down piece is at a height I can reach up and zipper the larger section on. Now if your coach is taller and the awning is higher off of the ground than mine, you made need the 18 inch drop so that you can reach the zipper. So you should extend your awning and see what a comfortable drop down length you need to have so that you can add the larger zippered piece without having to use a ladder. The piece that stays in your awning arm will not damage the awning.

I hope this makes sense!

Love my Shadepro, I have the standard 1 foot section that stays in awning and rolls up with awning. So easy to zip off and get it rolled up when wind comes up. My awning is 17'long which is like 16'8" so I had to get the 15' which is fine. They only provided 3 tie down points at bottom, I added 4 more. I must have a 7' drop, when stretched out to side it makes for a nice shaded area.

Hi Don...yes, it makes perfect sense. I am shopping around right now for the best price on a total awning replacement. My current awning doesn’t have enough pitch to it. Getting caught in the rain while camping over the years has taken it’s toll and it just doesn’t work well. Needless to say, it makes sense to wait until a new awning is installed so that I can determine the exact drop shade that I need.

Thanks Don!

I just ordered our awning shade from SHADEPRO. They have a 10% coupon that expires TODAY, May 4. (code = SRING2SUMMER14) Also free shipping and no sales tax.

Here's the explanation of the zipper insert sizing from their website...

The Vista Shade for Electric Awnings comes in two pieces: a 6 ft. body and an insert.
Example: If you order a Vista Shade with a 10 ft. drop, that means the body will be 6 ft. and the insert will be 4 ft. This allows for you to reach the zipper without needing a ladder. The insert is slid into the awning roller and rolls up with the awning. When you want to set up the Vista Shade, simply zip the body into the insert.

Missed out on the coupon. The shades are built(standard)in odd feet(lengths), so naturally ours needed to be 16 feet and that comes with a 'sizing' fee. Looks well made and fits perfectly.

Yep, good explanation...we have an eight foot drop, so the top section is two feet with the zipper on the lower edge. The six foot lower section zips to the top quite easily. Takes about 30 seconds to zip/unzip the lower section and the top stays in the track and stows nicely with no wrinkles, under the metal awning cover. It even comes with a stowage bag for the lower. Oh, and it comes with four plastic ground anchors and tie down ropes...it's a pretty nice set up.

We're heading out week after next to give it a real world test...hope the windshield Magna Shade gets here before we leave. There's been many times in the past that we wished we had both.

Sounds like a great setup. I can't wait to get ours, though our next trip isn't till the first of June. I'm ready to roll!

You're welcome! I saw the promo a few days ago but didn't realize it ended today. Luckily, I was looking at their website again today and snapped. I hope we like our new shades.

In case anyone is interested, I just got an email from ShadePro that they have a new 10% off coupon code, MEMORIAL14. It's good until May 27.

In other news, our new shade will be here tomorrow.

better deal today only

If anyone else is in the market for a shadepro awning shade they are currently having a labor day sale that gives you 20% off. Also, they have free shipping on orders over $100. I just order a shade today and wanted to let everyone else know about the sale.
