IMO a service contract (it is not an extended warranty) seems necessary for a MH because there are sooo many things that can, and often do require replacement or repair. A trailer is not as technical or have as many things to fail. RV appliances come with a warranty, Dometic for instance comes with a 3 year warranty(if requirements are met). My drivetrain is my truck; it does have most of the technical stuff that a MH drivetrain does, less auto-leveling jacks, etc.
The "service contract" market is a money-maker for both selling dealer, and the contract holder. It truly is a buyer beware market, and if the buyer does not use due diligence in selecting the best contract for their particular needs, becomes a frustrating, remorseful, and expensive purchase.

If you have motorhome with all the high tech stuff is nice to have one. I have lucked out once and used more than it cost me.

Had it on 2 RV's so far and basically broke even on cost of plan vs: repairs. I tend to think when you have a plan, the repair/service writers tend to try to bump the bill. Just my opinion.

If you are talking about a diesel motorhome, I say Yes. If a trailer, I say No. A gas motorhome - maybe?
the reason? The difference in the number & cost of high dollar repairs that are possible in each.
