Popping under coach

Good morning. I have a 2012 Itasca ellipse with about 42,000 miles. During my most recent trip I have heard a popping coming from underneath the coach. The piping seems to happen when the level legs are down.

I have checked both rear level legs and neither of them are leaking. I also replaced the transfer switch this summer because of an electrical issue I had as it was popping all of the time. I don’t think that’s the issue. It seems to happen when there is weight shifted. Has anyone experienced anything similar? I have a Freightliner chassis.

Yes, we have. Our last Monaco, 2012 Knight, would do this same thing. It always seemed as though it was coming from the jacks and it did not do it all the time but when it did it was when movement was happening. And sometimes it would do it in the middle of the night just by moving around in the bed. It was very annoying but there were no leaks or any signs of a malfunction. I also had a 2014 Itasca gasser and the front jacks would do the same thing at times.

Talk to the manufacturer of your hydraulic jack system and see if they recommend a friction modifier fluid for your jacks. It will require removing part of the fluid and replacing it with this fluid. Then you will need to cycle the jacks through several extend and retract cycles to get the fluid mixed.

This problem generally occurs when the jacks are going through a certain temperature swing.
