Power Converter

Can anyone tell me if I can replace a wfco wf-8955an converter with a wfco wf-9855an converter?

Well that's an interesting question.
They are both electrically similar 55 A. as converters, but.
The 8955 is a flush mount with adjoining distribution panel.
The 9855 is a plain surface mount converter.
Wouldn't be a quick swap. Would depend on the relative cost (someone giving you one?) and your fabrication skills.
They're near the same cost retail, The retrofit could be a PIA, IMHO.
Best of luck

Gotta agree with MtnTrek - a PITA. It wouldn't actually be a full replacement anyway, since the 8955 is also the AC and DC power center as well as the converter/charger. You could by pass the converter/charger electronics of the 8955 and wire in the 9855 in place of it, probably mounting the 9855 along side or somewhere near by. It would be a whole lot easier to install a new 8955, or buy the 8955 MBA, which is designed to replace the just converter portion of an 8955 if needed.

I disabled the built in converter by pulling the black wire off the breaker, on the distribution panel.

I ran a short romex cable, with a handy box and receptcal on one end, to the original converter breaker, neutral and ground buss. Then I plugged in the new converter.

The old one sits there, as a standby. If needed, I can hook back up the black wire to the breaker.
