Predator 2000 generator???

Anyone out there have any PERSONAL experience with the Predator 2000 generators? Peak 2000 watts, 1600 max continuous. Rated at 61 db vrs 59 db for the Honda 2000i. Doesn't say what distance it is rated from though . . .

Personally I have the Honda EU 2000i and am very happy with it. Just curious about the Predator . . .

One of the larger Predator, Model # 68529, a 5.5kw unit, was tested by Consumer Reports and came out pretty well in the ratings, but I haven't seen any ratings for the smaller inverter Predator generator.

Note: This is NOT a request for China bashing, or Harbor Freight bashing, or I once had an uncles best friends dog who had a Predator generator input. Only interested in ACTUAL, FACTUAL input on the Predator 2000 from people who actually OWN one, or know what they are talking about . . .

Don't mean to come down hard on all the trolls out there, I would prefer they just stay under their bridges. Just looking for some helpful information.

Looks like a nice cheap alternative to the Honda.

Not meaning to troll but; I'm reading 66 not 61db and the manual says at 23' 50% load.

Just got the new HF with the comparison add in it. The big difference I see is price $429 with coupon for the Predator Other difference I see is the engine is smaller than the Honda but Honda is lighter.
I had a Honda 2000 for years & sold it & now have a 3100 Champion.

I, too, am interested in the Predator. It's been in the HF ads/flyers for at least a year, but always with the fine print that it was not available in CA. I see now that has changed, and it has finally been certified for sale here. Price-wise, it's a good alternative to the Honda or Yamaha; be interesting to see how it actually stacks up.

That's interesting on the noise level. The ad I saw said 61 db, but didn't give a distance or load level.

The Honda is rated as 59 db at rated power and 53 db at 1/4 load.

noise level DOUBLES for every 7 db increase, so assuming the distance for the Honda is the same, it sounds like the Predator is at least TWICE as loud (I'm using the 59 db figure for the Honda at full rated output vrs 61 db to 66 db at 50% output.

HF ad is different from Honda specs on fuel burn as well. Honda states that at rated power the genny will run 3.4 hours on a tank full. The HF ad states that Honda will run for 3.1 hours on a tank full.

Jury still out on this one. Hasn't anyone actually BOUGHT ONE?

The latest catalog I've received from HF advertises the Predator 2000 at $499.99, but the catalog has two coupons. Unfortunately Predator is specifically excluded from the coupons . . . .

I also checked a bunch of the other 20% off coupons I get from other sources and they ALSO exclude Predator (among a bunch of OTHER items) from the discount . . Darn it!

Just got an HF advert in the mail with a special price of $429.99 for the Predator through Dec 4 (online, use coupon code 15394122).

Was at HF yesterday and it is now on sale for $399. Unfortunately I know no one that has any experience with them.

Yep, that's what I ran into, so I started this thread. I haven't been able to touch bases with anyone who has actual personal experience with them unfortunately . . .

I just got a HF sale booklet that shows the Predator 8750 genny on sale for $527.00 from 12-8 until 12-11. That on produces 8750 watts peak and 7000 watts continuous. They give the sound level at 76db. Sounds like a good deal but I don't know anything about them.

76db is loud! And we don't even know the conditions under which that was measured.

The 8750 is a large, loud, contractor style, open frame genny; nothing like the 2000 and certainly not appropriate for RV use.

Still really intrigued by the 2000; at $399 it could be a viable alternative to a Honda or Yamaha. Still no one here willing to take the plunge yet, huh?

I wouldn't consider 76db to be very loud. Of course, I know that's MUCH louder than the Honda, but it's also MUCH less expensive! Look at the chart below which compares it to a toilet flushing or a vacuum running 10' away. I guess you get what you pay for, huh?

That 76db is not at 10'. A toilet flushing only last 10-15 seconds not hours on end like a generator.
