Prescription drugs

Does anyone have advice for the best source for filling prescriptions while on the road for extended periods?

We use CVS pharmacy, some folks use WalMart. Any nationwide chain-store pharmacy can transfer your prescription from store to store as you request.

My Sister is a Big Wig at Walgreens so I use them. With Tricare my copay is $3.00. Their computer systems allows me to fill at any location.

We have had great success at Wal-Mart. With their computer system, it is just like being at your home Wal-Mart. Prices good and no hassle. They are just about everywhere with over 4,000 stores.

CVS, Wallgreens and Rite-Aid all have nation wide computer networks, If you fill a 'script at any of them, they all have access to the record file.

In addition my insurance insists I use a mail order firm,,, So long as I'm going to be 2 weeks in one spot I can have them mail to me.. Now, you do need to ask the campground manager.. I stay in mostly 4 campgrounds right now.. One is a nationwide chain (membership) and they WILL accept medicaiton and even hold it if it's my "Week out" The other one in Michigan will accept too.. except there are problems there.. So I just have 'em sent to the one..

I do not know about Wall-Mart or K-Mart or any of the others but suspect they too have nationwide computer networks for the pharmacy.

Also.. For all the pharmacies listed above.. Check out their discount generic programs... I mean 3-4 dollars a month for many popular meds.

We use a mail order pharmacy, Medco Health. They will direct mail to wherever we are.

Walgreens and CVS also have special mail order services and will send to wherever you are.

Recently had a problem with Wal-Mart in Florida. They said that a NY State RX in their system cannot be transferred to any other state - The Dr. must issue a new RX. Fortunately, all my RX's are the $4/month generics, so I get my MD to write them for 90 days with 3 refills (Equals a one year supply) and I fill 2 at a time, which gives me 180 day supply for the road.

We have our prescriptions from Florida filled pretty much all over the US with no problems. Strange. They did try to limit me to 40 Viagra a month though.

WOW! You might be interested in a handy dandy antique Pez dispenser I have for sale! ...

I was going to send it to Hugh Heffner as a wedding present, but after his bride to be gets finished with him, I doubt he'll have the strenght to flip the top open. Besides, I don't think that wedding is going to happen anyway, he's getting sooo old that she may be having trouble facing up to it... and back out. Bob

Your problem wasn't with the Florida Walmart.
It is a NY State law problem.
They won't transfer a prescription to any state.

When traveling you don't want to get any refills in NY or new fills there if you are going to be leaving the state.

If your Dr. is in NY and gives you a prescription right before you leave on a trip. Get it fill at any state after you leave NY. And then your refills can be done in any of the other 48 states.

FWIW- We have used Walmart for wife's medicine. Overall it has worked well. Two problems we didn't expect. We evacuated for hurricane Ivan. Went to get a refill on the road, our Walmart here with our records in the computer was without power for 10 days so the local Walmart there could not access the prescriptions. Also in Meridian, Mississippi the Walmart there could only fill prescriptions written by a Doctor licensed in that state???
