I have run across this in a lot of places. In Amarillo, one large (large, large) company has a lock on the area and not only will they not deliver less than 100 gallons, you pay nearly twice the going rate when you get it at THEIR PLACE.

We have gotten where, before we go to park anywhere for any length of time, we will fill up.

Conversely, we are in an RV Park in Tucson, and we see a propane truck running around several days per week.

1.you don't need a pump-just time.
2.All domestic tanks have a wet port. You can purchase a wet valve to screw into said port.
3. Buy the hose & valve/fitting and fill your tank at home.
I have wet valves on both of my 500 gal tanks, and can just transfer the hose to which one is most convenient. It helps if you own your tank. A rented tank is the property of the propane company and they might frown on you messing with it. I bought my tanks cheap when natural gas came into the area (not to me) and people who owned their tanks & were converting sold at rock bottom prices.

Can I use my compressor to pressurize a tank to aid the transfer of the propane?

I had the same problem lately when spending time in Northern Arkansas. Parked at a relatives house and propane place would not come fill my tank. I think they don't like to fill a small tank. Thankfully, by using it sparingly, the propane lasted until I got home.

What is everybody paying for propane? The last time I had any bottles filled, I think it was $2.99/gal.

In Texas I was paying about 2.70 a gal, got some in GA for only a dollar more than that.

When you are paying so much for the propane, why don't you use electric at the RV park. We are in Yuma, Az. and use electric when we can, which is almost all of the time. We fill the propane tank about once every two years and most of it is used for running the refrigerator when traveling. Of course we use a small amount of propane for the stove but use two electric hot plates for most of our cooking. It certainly works for us.

$2.569/gal if I'm only filling my 20lb bottles. $2.519/gal if I fill one of the 100lbers as well.

our local place will not charge a fee if its at least 100 gallons.....they sold me a 100 gallon tank but will only fill it to 80 %, but no fee for delivery yet
All propane tanks can only be filled to 80% due to legal and operational requirements. The 20% is needed for expansion room.

Here in WA is is illegal to fill a propane tank without a pump and meter. The pressure in a tank varies with the temperature so to get an accurate fill you need a pump.

Normal tank pressure is around 300 psi. How high does your compressor go? I'll bet not that high!!!

Locally it's about 3.599, but I filled up at a resort and got it for 2.999 but I had to pay cash which was fine with me since that's what I was going to use anyway.
