Having a home base and an exit plan is always a good idea. We would want a home in or near a town with shopping and healthcare for when it gets hard for us to drive. Acreage in the boonies doesn't really work well after 80.

Yeah good insight. I have thought, I'm 57, in 20 years I'll be 77, whatever rural land we get may or may not work then. Also, my wife and I have talked through what each of us would do in the event one lost the other, even before old age, living rural. Basically we'd probably sell, and get something more appropriate for the circumstances. So in either case, the option is always there to sell and buy something else more appropriate for the time. This is our dream, and neither of us think this property/full time living dream would be the same alone, so we're living for now and doing what makes us happy now, as we can always sell out later if things go sideways earlier than later. And they surely will later, no avoiding that. In other words, don't live in fear of the future, live in the moment, and deal with events as they come. Basically, don't worry about tomorrow, as the day has enough worries for itself.
