I grew up in the Midlands and now live in the midwest ... names that immediately make me think "Northwest" are ... Columbia River, Mt. Ranier, Mt Hood, Mt St. Helens, Fort Clatsop, Seattle Space Needle, Hoh Rainforest, etc...

Places that I think of as being "wet and wild "... are Louisiana swamps, Florida swamps, the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, the Salmon or Snake Rivers ...
