My thought exactly, my car was in a minor low speed accident last year (someone clipped me as I was turning into a driveway), and ended up spending an extended time in the body shop to be repaired (over 7 weeks). The insurance company paid for a rental from Enterprise which was a small Jeep Renegade, as I recall the rental cost came out to be a bit over $1,700. So considering that time period one might be better off buying a cheap $5,000 car, then turning around and selling it at $4,000 for a fast sale when done with it, and still be way ahead.
