Question for Georgia Residents

Have been researching info on possibly re-registering my MH in Georgia. The info on the DMV website is very confusing. Do you pay sales tax on a RV that was bought out of state? Have owned my MH for about five years.

So tell me the true cost of being a Georgia resident. What about income tax?

Thanks
Kaye

Vehicle registration is county to county...That is all I can tell you.

I am in McIntosh county till I get a new engine.

Thanks Triker56, that's one of the sites I've looked at. Clear as mud.

Wa8yxm - thanks, maybe I'll look at Florida. Only reason I've kept Oregon plates is that I've got permanent Veterans plates on MH. Oregon income tax is making me reconsider that.

I moved from Georgia. You don't want to claim residency there. You'd do better to be a Floridian, South Dakotian or Texan.

To title any vehicle in Georgia, you must have a Georgia driver's license. And the ad valorem taxes and state income taxes can be pretty tough.

Spent many years in Ft Myers/Cape Coral area, and used the Cape VA Clinic. Brand new facility, loved my Doctor, but moved from our full time live aboard boat to an RV. It's a good area, and has lots of rv parks to choose from. Might be worth some research.

When you register a vehicle in Georgia you must pay a TAAT of 7.5%. The TAAT is an advalorum tax. There is no sales tax on vehicles purchased in or out of state.

The TAAT is always assessed when you register a vehicle regardless if you bought it, received as a gift or just moved into Georgia.

The annual charge (on birth date) for the license is usually about $25.00.

Income tax in Georgia is 6% but non-earned income (interest, pension, social security, dividends, etc.) of up to $65,000 is exempt for people 65 and older, $35,000 for 62+.

Property taxes tend to be lower than most states.

bought our Palazzo 33.3 bunkhouse DP in TX - dealer sent the 6.75% TAVT 'tax'(Aug2014) to Georgia local tag office - gave us temporary tag for initially 60 days for motor coach - got back to GA 58 days later - local tag office issued new Tag - everythings good
