Redoing cheap cabinets.
I thought I might give a little insight in my past battle with the cheep TT cabinets. Most or lots of people have real wood, but like mine, has the cheep laminate. IT does NOT like moisture, at all. Over time, a nick and or mopping the floor and high humid areas have lead to the delaminating and swelling of said wood product.
So, first try. Jumped in with the chalk paint crowd. White with black trim. Was about ready to give the camper away, as I hated it, a lot.
I now found this product called gel stain, and love it.
First I sanded everything, and doors and droors out side sanded. Did what needed to be done to cleanup and seal the bad spots, with thinned out expoxy, the spots needed 2 coats to sink in and will never swell again. ( mostly by or at the floor and where water gets splashed often.)
Yes it ( gel stain) takes multiple coats, but comes out like it was sprayed. A couple coats of clear if one wants and its as best as I can get to new.
Last step was to take cleaner and old toothbrush and scrub, wipe, and let dry, then clear caulk around anything that needs sealing.
Im thinking of downsizing to a truck camper, and if someone comes and looks at my TT and sais, ( I cant wait to paint the cabinets white ) Ill shed a tear.
