Refrig question for storage

We have a 2020 North Point 310 pls, it has a residential refrigerator. When we get ready to store it do we need to leave the frig/freezer doors open/cracked for air to help prevent mold? It is not impossible to do, but could be challenging. Not sure if anyone has ever told us to do this. On our previous rigs we were able to do this easily, but the current one is no so easy... Do you leave yours opened?

Roll up some newspaper and stick it between door and frame.


Use a stick long enough so that it goes from back of refer to the door while it is cracked open 6 inches or so.


There has to be a way to keep doors open

when the slide is in the doors are extremely close to the island, I am not sure is we can even get them opened an inch.....Is it really necessary to keep them open?

I take it you have never smelled a closed up reefer. I don't know where it comes from in an empty reefer, but its there! Won't make that mistake again.
Maybe try a couple baking soda boxes.

I get the picture. Will use foam and blue tape to keep it open anyway we ca.

An inch is better than closed. Trust me.

Treat it like you would a home refrigerator you were going to store. Use something to keep the doors open as far as practical that does not compress the door seals - it they get deformed and you lose seal integrity, the cooling will be seriously compromised and normally the fix is to replace the entire door as replacement seals are not sold for most models.

If your storage has power, just leave it on.

In our vacation home we just turn the settings up and leave them run as DSD says

They use very little power unless you are in a high ambient temperature environment

When we do store long term several newspapers and cracked doors plus charcoal on a plate in each compartment

We hold the doors closed with a piece of Velcro. I stick a wine cork in between the door seals and use the Velcro to hold the door tight against the cork.

We use a folded pot holder to hold both the freezer and fridge door open when motor home is not in use. An inch or so is all that is necessary in our clime. Also a fan of open baking soda box on fridge shelf during long winter storage.

This pretty much sums it up for you.

Place a box of baking soda in frig. You can purchase baking soda in boxes designed for this. We keep baking soda in our refrigerator a home also. It absorbs the Oder.
