Refrigerator whining noise
My Domitic Refg is making a whining noise off and on again. i suspect it is a fan with a bad bearing but I do not know if it has a fan? I looked from the outside and see nothing but coils. Any suggestions.....

Is it in a slide? Probably a fan between the vents.

My Dometic 4 door refrigerator has 4 fans at the upper radiator. They turn on and off via a thermal switch mounted to the radiator. Don't worry, they stop making noise after they burn out. I've replaced mine twice, so far. [emoji35]

Is this repairable without taking to an RV shop?

It depends on what your repair abilities are. My Dometic has 4 "computer type" fans, like these.

If your refrigerator is in a slide-out then go outside and take the upper refrigerator vent cover off and look down into the cavity. Be careful as the upper "radiator is hot. You should see one or more fans like above.
If your refrigerator is not in a slide then you'll have to go on the roof and take the refrigerator vent off. You can look down to see the fans, but it may be a longer reach.
When the thermostat turns on, all the fans turn on at once. If some aren't turning, then they need replacement. If that's the case, I would recommend replacing all of them. As the fans start failing, the refrigerator's internal temperature will start to creep up, until it becomes unsafe for food.

The first thing is to locate the fan if that is what is making the noise. When you hear the noise, go outside and open the access panel and follow the sound to see. Sometimes the fan is easily accessed but not always. If your refrigerator has an air vent at the top, the fan is probably just inside. If the vent goes up through the RV roof, you may need to remove that roof vent to gain access to the fan. I have also seen some that require you to pull the refrigerator out to get access to.
If the noise is from a vent fan they are not difficult to replace by just remove the old one and put the new one in by reversing the process.

Most, if not all propane/electric rv refrigerator's have at least one cooling fan which operates on a thermal sensor. They're just like computer fans. Usually somewhere outside between the upper and lower vent grates. Ours was whining, installed a new one recently, sounds the SAME! Oh well! It does the job!

by all means, YES! The fans are only clamped to the coils and easily replaced. The only issue for anyone not familiar with working on RV's is pulling the refrigerator out, which you will need to do. Once the fans start making noise it will not take long for them to stop functioning all together.

Model of fridge will confirm fan or not and if fridge is in a slideout or not?
Fan would be the only source of whining noise
