remove last coating before prep for Tropi cool?

I used Rubberseal liquid rubber on our 5th wheel a couple years ago. In some areas it is starting to come off, generally over the Eternabond tape. Other areas I can get it up if I try otherwise it appears to be adhearing well to the roof membrane (EDPM). Should I try to get it all off or just clean it all real well using Tropi cool directions. What say you?

I have the same situation on my roof and intend to get all the loose stuff off and clean and leave the rest. I will check with Henry's first to make sure it's OK but haven't yet. Chuck

If it is coming up, you have to get it off before applying something else. There is no point putting a new coating on if the surface the new coating it is stuck to is peeling away.

Some parts have come up. Other areas I would have to work on it to get it up. If I can just clean and recoat after getting the loose stuff up it cuts down on the time.

A very likely reason some is coming up easy now and some isn't is that some areas of the roof had a good prep and others didn't. Prep is the key to the effectiveness and life of any coating.

In a couple of years the areas that aren't coming off easy now will start releasing, taking the new roof coating with it. It may seem like more work now but you're going to be doing the roof ever 2-3 years the way you're going, and always risking leaks as the old coating lifts and causes cracks.
