Renting your motorhome
Has anyone tried any of the sites where you list your motorhome for rent?
Just wondering if anyone can give me some advice?
Thanks

I imagine that it's a matter of how complex your coach is, how much you can count on your insurance agent if you file a commercial (for hire) claim against your personal policy, how many scrapes and dings you can accept for the money involved, and how much you want to get the 8PM call from 700 miles away that, "...this thing don't work no more and you need to find us a motel and come get us...and the coach"
What are your objectives with regard to the question?

Amen to that. It sure wouldn't be worth it to me. I've got enough headaches without worrying that some idiot messed up my coach and having to deal with insurance and perhaps lawyers to get it fixed. I would imagine the majority of people on this forum would not rent out their motorcoach.

I rented one once.
The one I originally was to rent was not available for some reason.
I did get a 29ft as an up grade.
Tires were visibly low, they took me to a tire store to get them aired up.
Windshield was cracked.
Bathroom vent handle missing.
Generator exhaust was short causing fumes to get into the RV at least the Co2 dector worked.
Not the best maintained RV.
I had issues with the place to get my deposit back, googling the company for complaints were almost word excuses other got that I was getting. Had to do a charge back with my credit card company.

A fellow Fleetwood Discovery motorhome owner rented his almost new coach to a nice "professional" type of person. He said that guy must have had one heck of a party because they did over $10,000 in damage. He said $7,000 in damage to the inside(floors, walls and damage to the refrigerator and stove) and $3,000 to the outside!! The "professional" had insurance coverage, but after repairs were completed, the motorhome was never the same.

Yeah, I can't imagine a world where I would rent my motorhome to strangers.
I can think of only TWO people that I would trust to use it without my direct supervision.
And I bet that's two more than some other folks here can think of...

I wouldn't rent my personal RV, but we're thinking about buying a few and renting them out. We're running the numbers now and talking to Good Sam, the insurance company and the lawyer to make sure every possibility is covered, such as a breakdown, accident, etc.
We would likely do a few 24-28' class C's. Small enough that most people should be able to handle them.

There is an RV dealer close to us that acts as a renters agent. They will take your RV during periods you are not using it and rent it out. They provide all maintenance and of course you get a cut of the money.

I have given casual thought to this too, particularly when I run across a nice looking older coach for sale at what appears to be a great price. Though all the horror stories I read online give me pause.

A rule of thumb that we've learned is to keep your rental properties close to you, because distance ties to the amount of money it costs you to own them.
I don't know that an individual has the resources to be able to retrieve their property if it's in a ditch 700 miles away, or run out of gas, or thrown a belt. I also don't know that dealers that rent customer property without placing the whole burden of expense on the owner; plus their up-charge.
Be careful when reviewing the rental agreement.
