Reservations....

got a trip coming up. have reservations that are now prepaid at 4 campgrounds. except one campground said no need for credit card/prepay. instead they sent me a text message that just said "this is ***campground confirming your reservation for this aug. ** and aug. ** thank you" in your opinion does a text message guarantee me a camp site ?

or should I shop for a campground that will let me prepay ?

I think you will be fine. Not everyone requires a deposit.

Be thankful that there are still CGs out there that still trust you to honour your reservation without requiring a security deposit in the form of prepayment of some sort.

Far too often people think nothing of making such a reservation & then doing a no show, not even the courtesy of calling to cancel. Meanwhile, if busy, the CG has turned away somebody who would have been there. There are too many inconsiderate people out there.

Most of the time we do not make reservations days/weeks in advance but will call when a few hours away. Most often the CG does not ask for a deposit on short notice like that.

Chances are that you will be fine. We stayed in a campground in Maggie Valley, NC for the month of October last year and they don't require a deposit.

well I bailed on that campground, yes I did call them. I now have a confirmed reservation from a close by campground, one that fills my needs better anyway. I'm not set up for boondocking so I need a sure thing. things a little different here on the west coast, all the campgrounds are packed.

thanks for replies,

Some CGs never really fill to capacity. If this is one of the they know you will have a slot. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I often call ahead, even to the one's that I have sent a deposit to, to make sure there aren't any problems.

What do you think you need to boondock that you don't have? I would assume you have a generator. That's the only different thing you need.

yep, have a generator. but the profession boondockers have way more. all of which I don't have. there is one important item that I have never owned or even used in my lifetime, this item mainly for secure boondocking.

I think you would have been fine. We do call a week before to confirm. You might want to ask them for an e-mail confirmation when you make your reservation.

I think you're vastly mistaken. Boondocking is safer than some RV parks. Criminals aren't going to exert the time and energy to come and look for you. We did it for 16 years without at gun for protection.... just used common sense.

You'll have more need of that particular appliance at home in the city (if you live in a city.)

Yup... Too much Bonanza and Gunsmoke.
The first time we boondocked we weren't sure what to expect, but now we're hooked.
