Riots: Are you keeping safe and not on the road?

With all the uncertainty out in the big cities are you staying 'holed up' ? Possible to get trapped even out on the interstates and have to deal with rioters.

We are staying close to home for now due to COVID-19 and the civil unrest.

I have to head for Spartan Chassis in a couple of weeks from the Dallas area. Will be on Interstates near Little Rock and Indianapolis.

Return will take me to Des Moines, Iowa, via Interstates south of Chicago. I have the same concern that you mention. I have never been on I-94/I-80 near Chicago south side.

Anyone have any comments?

Ray

I will not change my plans based on these folks. What they are doing has nothing to do with justice it's all about taking advantage of the real protests and breaking down our society. If we cave in and start letting them influence our decisions they win. I have plenty of other comments but they are not allowed here.

Don't go downtown at night with your RV, and it may be prudent to check for reports of pedestrians on freeways before driving through areas with unrest.

Thanks for this post. We all can discuss how and if this will affect our plans without additional comments.

Ditto. Besides, I can't recall the last time I drove the rig anywhere near what today might be considered as a potential urban riot target.

Stick to daytime travel and the freeways. There aren't too many stores worth looting next to the interstates.

No changes for me. Have 2 trips planned, this weekend and over the 4th. As every other riot, after a couple days and it’ll be past.

If you’re really concerned, avoid the larger cities and stay away from interstates around them.

I’m not changing anything I have planned.

If my motor home ever gets finished I'm heading from AZ. to PA. I'm a bit scared about going around the urban areas, even on the interstates. I'll plan the trip a bit more carefully than I normally do!

Try to time your travel on I-94 and I-80 so that you go thru mid day. That area is well south of the city. Fuel up before you enter the "corridor". Traffic is always heavy but if you go through after 10 and before 3pm you should be fine.
Be prepared to pay some tolls and you will need to pay them online unless you have an EZ Pass or iPass. Cash tolls are not being accepted at this time.

Indy will be OK, If I were coming from TX I would make my way to I55/57N to I70 to I465N to I65N. That makes Indy the only major city within miles of those interstates. It may be a few miles further to drive, but to me it's worth the extra mileage to miss Chicago area traffic.
