RV Care Importance for Dealer

Hi Everyone

Im about to make an offer on a 2023 Winnie Adventurer and the dealer is super close to me but not a member of RV Care. How important is this when it comes to out of country service?

And any remarks/comments on this model is appreciated as its between this NEW 2023 Adventurer or a few year old Newmar Baystar. The Baystar has none of the bells and whistles of the adventurer and is a 5 day drive away in the winter ... Winnie has 1.5 bath, new technology, etc...but Newmar is quality and beautiful of course..both floor plans work for me but the Winnie has more options of course by far.

Thanks and hope tp get some replies as this is my first RV purchase and im so nervous to make a mistake.

Why is an affiliation with RV Care important? Have you determined that you want the RV Care extended warranty rather than any other similar brand? If that is your choice, I think you can buy the RV Care extended warranty thru other other sources, e.g. https://www.rvinsurancesolutions.com/services/rvcare/.

I like Newmar, but Winnebago makes a pretty darn good coach too and I don't think the Baystar has a significant advantage over the Adventurer.

I'd get the Winnie, and delay any decision on an extended warranty for at least a year. I had a Newmar new from factory, and had several build issues that just should not have happened. I'd buy another if I ever want another class A, and my financial ship comes in.

As gary said, Winne makes a good one too.

Resale comparison

Looks like the 2023 Winnie adventurer and a 2024 baystar sport are both a similar amount. Which one is better for resale in a few years?
The Winnie even though it'll be a year older but bigger floor plan and 1.5 bath etc
Or the sport as it's Newmar and newer?

Be aware that the Baystar Sport has the smaller tires (19.5) and that may affect your handling. Be sure to give both thorough test drives before committing to either.

Resale value is terrible compared to the price you pay buying from a dealer no matter what you buy. Don't even bother considering that as a factor.
Do you need another 1/2 bath? For me it is just wasted space. Go for the one that has the best floorpan for your needs.

Rv care again

Back to RV care

I won't be purchasing any extended warranty but my concern is that servicing will be an issue if my dealer is not part of RV care as they don't have a network of service centres to refer you too if ur not at home when you breakdown or have issues.

Is it a flag that the Winnie dealer seems to be the only dealership not part of RV care?

The Newmar dealer far away told me that them being part of rv care means they will have other servicers get me in if I'm out of country etc as all the rv care dealers must help each others customers.

I would be a bit skeptical of the promises like the RV Care from any dealer. You should be able to get repairs done anywhere with or without it. If I was buying it would be the least of my worries. It seems that getting work done anywhere is a problem with or without a plan.

Really? So it's true that dealers just don't help you if there are issues close or away from them? Thats my biggest fear is being left in the wind for issues even covered by warranty issues with service delays etc.
The dealership doesn't have a good rep for the Winnie but its close and the salesman I have is very very genuine and helpful...whether that lasts remains to be seen but his personal reviews are great.

Service on RV's can be scary at times. First if you break down in the middle of nowhere, like you say, you need to get to the repair facility by tow truck or trailer. Perhaps a mobile mechanic can get to you. Without knowing what type of traveling, you plan on this could be either way, good or bad. I am trying to scare you, but it is realistic. I have broken down on the road with blown tire or the engine just quitting and needing a tow truck. Locally the local dispatcher was able to get me a tow and the tow truck driver knew an independent shop that would help me in the morning. In all it was right around $1,000 so that was cheap. Promises from salesmen can be all talk a lot of time. If you don't personally know them, you are at their mercy and the farther away the more so. Things usually aren't all that bad so don't give up on your dream.

The warm fuzzy feeling you may think you’re getting from sales, will pale compared to your experience and expectations with service. It’s just the nature of this industry. Extended warranties have soooooo many conditions in the fine print, it protects them, not you. Not trying to scare you…..this is just a reality check. That said…..we love our motorhome travel experiences, but you do need to be fairly DIY to stay on top of things.

Do you know how to tell if a salesman is lying?

His/Her mouth is open, and lies come out.

Sales and Service are different parts of a dealership who are never on the same page. I suggest that you talk with the Service Manager. Ask some specific questions, like what is needed to get the oil changed, a new belt on the engine, how long to get a malfunctioning heater checked, etc.

The place I bought my second TT from had a "You bought it here, go to the head of the line for service."

Most folks bringing a TT or 5er for an annual bearing lube took from 3 to 10 days - WORK DAYS - to get to the point where a service person actually looked at the rig to see if that was all that needed to be urgently done.

An hour or less procedure which always was billed at 2 man hours - half diagnostic, half actual work.

I could call two days in advance, and bring in my TT at 10, and be on the road before 11.

Didn't really have a great feel for the salesman, but service tended to be great. Unfortunately, never found anyplace that good since.

Once at a Camping World just browsing, I noticed they were adding a new building of maintenance bays. The service desk told me proudly that they would have 250 bays when the construction was finished. I asked how many service techs they had. The answer was less than 50.

Which meant a lot of RVs, mostly motorhomes, were sitting for days with no one working on them.

==========

Now, your buying the location being close, that's a big plus if you are not able or comfortable doing many small tasks. But it will cost.

Extended warranties like RV Care.

Most of the time, you will never get in service what you pay for the premiums. Which is actually what you want. Warranty work means your RV is sitting in a shop waiting on parts and paperwork.

No matter if you buy it or not - you really want the RV out of the shop and ready to use.

(The salesman and dealership commission on things like RV Care is huge - as much as 50% of the total cost that goes probably half into the salesman's pocket, above the commission on the actual sale of the RV.)
