RV Dealer's questionable ad

I just got an ad in the mail from a local RV dealer advertizing TT that can be towed with a 1/2T. These TT are from 25 to 36' using the model #. Two that I was able to find the specs on were 1 to 2' longer than the model #. There is a label on each ad saying "TOW more fun with your Halfton". It's no wonder we have people coming to us with handling problems using a 1/2T tow truck. The TTs advertised were Dutchman & Rainier. It appears the Rainier is made by Dutchman or maybe Thor but I didn't find any info.

The RVIA requires that the stated length be that of the usable living area, not the overall external length. On a TT, the tongue adds 2-3 feet to the usable length.

There are half tons with legitimate tow ratings up around 10,000 lbs, but those are not the configurations that most people buy. Instead they get the nicely dressed up crew cab model with the economical engine and rear axle and then expect to still tow a big trailer with it. RV manufacturers say "you can pull this with a half ton" and that's true IF you have the right half ton, but few buyers know enough to distinguish whether theirs can do it or not. Then they ask the salesman, who often knows little and of course says Yes cause he read "half ton" in the sales brochure and wants to make the sale.

When we were looking for a TV, and we did that first before we selected a TT. We went to our local Nissan dealer becaused the adv the Titan PU had a tow rating of 9400#. We told the salesperson what we wanted and we found a truck. However, when we we went to look for a TT, the salesperson asked what we were going to use for a TV. We took him out to our new Titan and he took a look. Came back and told us that truck would not be able to tow even a 6,000# TT.

We wnt back to the Nissan dealer and told the salesperson and he got the dealership manager involed. We told the manager about what happened. He sent us out to the lot to get another vehicle. He had only one on the lot. This truck had the proper tow package and was rated for the 9400# tow rating. The vehicle was about $6,000 more than the first one. He offered us the vehicle at the same price as the original truck We took the deal and have been happy campers ever since. Just goes to show that there are some dealershps that are caring about their customers.
