RV GPS

I own a 2005 HR Navigator 45PBQ. My situation is that I have a very difficult time receiving GPS signals with my Rand McNally RVND7. I’ve tried others borrowed from friends with similar results. I’ve searched for a unit that would accept an external antenna for the roof with extremely limited results. My RVND7 will work then just when I need it the most it will freeze up then recalculate. My frustration level is at an all time high. Any assistance would be most appreciated.

Do you use the RM Dock software for monthly updates? If you do, next time go to maintenance, then check software for problems. There will be a warning box appear to first contact RM tech support, click the small x in top right corner to remove that pop-up then click the circle to begin the check for problems cycle and follow directions.
This will correct file errors in your RM RVND unit. If it does not solve the problem, backup your files via Dock then use a paperclip to push the tiny red reset button on the back on the unit. This restores it to factory settings. If neither of these suggestions solve the issue, call RM tech support and arrange to mail it to them for repair.

I was a great proponent of the Rand McNally RV GPS RVND 7, until my unit failed late last year. They seem to last about 5 years or so, before failure. My failure mode was that it would freeze up also and when I tried to DOCK the unit it would tell me that the unit was corrupted and would not DOCK.

So, I did a lot of research on a new GPS unit for my needs since I tow a 13'6" tall 5er. I finally decided on a Garmin RV GPS unit. I am glad I maid the switch since this unit has several features that the Rand McNally did not have.

Some of the features that includes a Dash Camera that provides front collision warning and lane departure warning. The unit will also notify you of speed limit changes with a ding and than the speed limit change that you are approaching. It will also notify you of pedestrian and school zones, along with RED light cameras. The unit will also pair with your smart phone if you so, choose to do that.

Note Garmin is just now introducing their new RV 890, so expect to see discounts on the RV 780 which was introduced in 2017.

One of my happiest days was when me RM 7710 died. I hated it. My Garmin 770 has been excellent.

I also have a Garman 770, could not be happier with it. I did turn off the "Curves Ahead" warning off after a trip to Crater Of Diamonds SP in Arkansas last year.

I purchased the Garmin RV785 & Traffic with built in dash cam.

This unit has a widow suction cup mount standard and the 12V power cord connects to the mount. The 12V power is transferred through the mount into the Garmin. This way no loose connections can occur from removing the Garmin from the vehicle overtime by on plugging the unit every time it is removed. A very strong magnetic holds the Garmin in place to the mount. Works great since my Co-Polit can see this too, she can access the Garmin where it is mounted in the center of my truck.

Hope this helps?

I HATE the Curves Ahead ORANGE banner running across the top of the screen, it seems to happen every 100 feet. I was under the impression that I had to turn off ALL warnings to get rid of the Curves Ahead banner, not true? Can you point me where to turn them off? TIA

RV 770 fwiw. On my trips across the US and Canada, I was disappointed with its Speed Limit accuracy across both countries, many mistakes.

I love everything else about it.
