RV insurance

we currently insure our 2014 Winnebago Access with National General but I'm looking around for alternatives. I've got a cheaper quote from AAA (probably because we'll be bundling auto, home and motorhome policies). does anyone have AAA coverage for their RV and, if so, what has been your experience with them, especially if you'd had a claim? thanks.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined us!

I have checked with all the big players, Good Sam, etc., but I get the best prices from a local independent insurance agency. They shop it through several companies that they represent, and get the best price for us!

I would suggest that you create a signature showing the make and model of your RV. It will help folks to answer questions you may have in the future.

Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

You have to factor in claims history as well as premiums. If the insurance company does not pay reasonable claims what good is a low cost premium? As a retired lawyer who handled multiple claims with AAA I found them to be one one of the most difficult and unreasonable insurance companies to deal with. There are many better insurance companies. Shop around. I currently have Geico and find their premiums to be fair, and they are reasonable when it comes to claims.

We shopped Safeco (who we have all our other insurance with), Progressive, USAA, State Farm, Good Sam, General. State Farm was about $2700; others were about $4000. That is with a very high deductible but limits are also higher to comply with umbrella.

I have a State Farm
They just notified me than my rate is dropping 10% due to COVID-19.
Saving some money from last year's big increase in going to new from a 13 yr old RV

I recently got a solicitation from Good Sams about RV inscurance that prompted me to check on the coverage we had through American Family. After my agent explained the coverage, I was thoroughly satisfied and since we bundle all our consumer insurance with them, the premium is reasonable.

State Farm has a BAD Reputation in East Texas after the 2020 Tornado that ran thru East Texas - started with NOT showing up for weeks. Other companies had a presence there the next day ... One of the volunteers said during Hurricane Harvey it was the same for that disaster. Shop wisely

Start shopping. Too many variables to compare to other people/experience.

I am surprised at what some are paying for insurance. When my previous company wanted to increase my premium from $1650 up to $2100 on our 2013 Allegro Bus, I went looking. Only had two comp claims in six years. Some companies wanted close to $4,000. Geico wanted $970 for 250/500 liability and 1,000 deductible. ($500 ded on comp) I also switched three other vehicles to them. Ten days after the policy started, I had a windshield crack while sitting in an Denver RV park watching the snow come down. It was over $2500 which they promptly paid and waived the deductible. No premium increase in 18 months since it happened.

AAA client

We have our Class C on our AAA auto policy (also have AAA home ins.) Earlier this year I had to claim on the RV and a car for damage caused by squirrels. Both claims were handled efficiently without any drama or haggling.

The repair shop for the car even released it before they had the final check from AAA (that claim was for nearly $6000; darn rodents!); the service rep said they never have any problems with AAA unlike GEICO! It was an unsolicited comment.

I'm sure that experiences differ depending on which part of the country you're in. The JD Power report shows that https://www.jdpower.com/business/pre...nsurance-study

Base your insurance purchase decisions on service the company provides not the cute commercials on TV. Believe me, Flo, a lizard, or emu isn't going to show up and fix you claim. I'd rather pay a little more and be comfortable that they will respond quickly and ethically.

I use AMICA and have for all of our insurance for as long as I've had insurance. Two RV claims - 40+ years including a mysteriously broken $850 side window last fall. One call and 3 days later a check was in my mailbox. Full replacement and content coverage for the sig 5er for less then $400/year.

State Farm had their call center in town until recently. Even with many employees living here, their reputation was pretty poor.

A local agent may be your best bet for insurances
