Unhappy RV Mfg Closures

Today I received an e-mail from Good Sam on breakdown insurance. As part of the e-mail they listed all the RV manufacturers that have gone under. Not sure it has been posted anywhere in IRV2, but below is the list, at least as of today :

RV Manufacturers Out of Business:
National RV
Travel Supreme
Teton Homes
Extreme RV
King of the Road
Travelaire

Western RV
Weekend Warrior
Ameri-Camp
Big Foot RV
Sunline Coach Company
Chinook/Trail Wagons

Alfa
Pilgrim International
Rag’n
Dolphin
Sun Valley Inc.

Truly a sad state of affairs......

On the bright side, the loss of units produced may help the resale value of our 07 when demand increases down the road.

So what was GS's point?

Lots of us are past manufacturers warranties whether the manufacture is in business or not.

But NOT for the purposes of continuing or servicing TS. Jayco wanted the facilities, not the former product.

I also believe that the Jayco acquisition of the TS facilities has since gone no where? Anyone with current info?

GS wants to sell everyone an extended warranty to ease their pain. Just had to let out a good laugh, I have been waiting for eight days for a response from GS customer support with no end in sight.

When they go out of biz and no one buys the molds, you will NOT be able to obtain most body parts or other brand specific parts for these defunct manufacturers. Out of warranty but still in business means you CAN get those parts. Manufacturers keep these molds for years and years.

Be wary if you can buy a defunct manufacturer rig for a super deal, you'll never be able to repair a brand specific (i.e. body, interior, etc) part. It CAN be a really big deal.

Various ERS policies will need to deal with the unfixable risk associated with defunct manufacturers. The manner that existing ERS policies will handle this situation is not clear, but what is clear, is that the methods chosen by the ERS will likely be a big surprise to policiy holders.

I seem to get the feeling from a lot of people that Extended Warranties are kind of like a game, you try to get them to honor their warranty and they try to find any excuse not to. They hope you get so frustrated that you just give up!

You opened the e-mail?

Good golly!

You actually opened the e-mail?

I (used to) get so many from GS club that I now have my e-mail programmed to dump them right straight to the trash. I never see them.

Hope they never send anything inportant . . . but I sure do not need the constant barrage of advertising. With headlines of "critical," "important" and other such missleading titles they cried wolf to many times and defeated their own purpose.

Is there a different Dolphin manufacturer other than National RV?

Gee! Sounds just like my health insurance plan - and my house insurance (try 'em after a hurricane) - and my car insurance.

Don't count on this "rebound" if the Congress passes and the president signs the "cap and trade" legislation currently being discussed. This legislation will impose heavy energy taxes on the fuel used to run our rigs and heat our homes. This tremendous tax increase will then be wasted by our goofy politicians and redistributed to those that are more deserving.

I may be missing something, but what company provides body work in the extended service policy.
