Equalizer Systems is one of those companies that do nothing but leveling systems, and we're pretty darn good at it too
If you end up with an RV without the leveling system you hoped for, we'd be happy to help you out with that! We have a couple different options for 5th Wheels. Just this week, we had a brand new Columbus unit here getting our six point Auto Level system, and the owners are beyond happy with how it's working for them.
The situation was similar, as well. The dealership promised them a leveling system and didn't follow through. Equalizer Systems was able to step up and make it happen. Feel free to contact me with any questions!

First week of October I agreed on a price, placed an order and put a deposit down on new fifth wheel from a dealer in Texas. Seven weeks after placing the order the dealer has notified me the manufactory has decided to discontinued this model. After accepting the order the manufactory decided seven weeks later not to build it.
The dealer has tried to find a replacement trailer and has found three trailers of the same model with different options and interior colors. I am willing to give on some of the options and interior color. The deal breaker is none of the available trailers have auto leveling.
In the build sheet the dealers listed a auto leveling system.
Dealer stated its not cost effective to install a aftermarket auto leveling system.
What would you do?

The last few years as auto level systems have become more popular, the Lippert auto level system seem to have issues. How is the Equalizer System different?

No fundamental difference in design that I'm aware of. It's just built more reliably. Probably more expensive too. Lippert is a low-cost, higher volume component supplier, winning market share with aggressive pricing.
I believe all the Equalizer leveling systems are double-action, i.e. they pump up & down rather than pump down and spring return. That's a functional difference rather than quality. I think Lippert makes both types of product.
The Equalizer auto-level system in our 12 year old coach has never needed repair.

Thanx
Over the last few years I have seen Lippert buy out suppliers. Didn't realize they were a cheapo / lower end product supplier. I guess another thing to watch out for.

Not surprisingly, RV makers are very susceptible to a supplier who promises to provide a component at x% less than a competitor. That's great for keeping costs down, that is until the component proves to be so troublesome that buyers shun RVs made with them. But by then, there are thousands of RVs on the road and on dealer lots with crappy components. RV makers don't exhaustively test components (YOU get to do that!), so they get taken in by promises. And they never seem to learn when they get burned doing so.

I'm sure your dealer would have loved to deliver the RV you ordered, have a bit more profit to show for the year and hopefully have another happy customer. Many folks on this site see dealers as the devil. I have experienced this with several manufacturers over the years and many have been with no warning whatsoever. We have orders waiting to be filled and one morning you get an email stating the product or product line is being discontinued with a brief apology. The dealer is most likely correct when he states it is not cost efficient to add them after the fact. What is meant by that statement is that it costs more in most cases to add them after the fact. For one, the manufacturers buy the systems for much less than the dealer can buy them. Secondly the labor costs more to install as well as taking longer to run wires and lines once the unit is assembled. Now, thats not to say it cant be done but it is going to come at a higher price. The dealer has shown that they want to help by trying to find a unit for you (most likely from another dealers stock). If you have your heart set on that particular unit, I would work with the dealer to obtain one and then find out how much additional cost would be incurred by having the leveling system installed after the fact. Have the dealer credit you for the initial cost of the factory installed system and use that to help pay for the aftermarket system. If you want to go another direction, get your deposit back and regroup. Pretty simple situation. Contrary to popular belief, the dealers have a massive investment which is fueled by happy customers.
