Nothing like listening to a dog bark nonstop all day while the owner is away. We re homed our sweet puppy because she did not like being left along and we did not want her disturbing others. We know how miserable that is. My best friend has her and we get to visit whenever we are in the area of her n ew home. All dogs bark. it is the unrelenting all day barking that drives us crazy.

So, by extrapolation all dogs boarded in a kennel will die there? A one off experience - and you don't even say why it died - is not an indictment of all kennels. A 10 year old lab is not a young dog.
One of the worst things I can think of is leaving a dog or dogs alone in the RV for hours to bark and ruin that part of the vacations of so many others in the campground. I would be incensed to be the one parked in the next site. That is just as bad as not picking up his poop.
I ask the questions: Do all of you never leave your dog alone when camping with him? If you do, do you have any idea how he acts while you are gone?

Nice reply... Sooo very compassionate. I would imagine they'd be more than a little nervous putting another dog in ANY kennel, no matter what caused their pet's death. Doesn't mean kennels don't work, it just doesn't work for them... Good Lord... I'm astounded by the way some people respond to others.

Big part of the reason we got one as well. I even made sure we had an auto gen. start JIC we had to leave them in coach in hot weather without hookup. We also have hairless dogs as wife is allergic to dogs in general. Park we spent 5 weeks at earlier this year had a lot of dogs in it and very little barking (I think in that time I heard dogs bark 2x.)
Dogs are not a problem bad owners are!

I agree. We make sure they aren't alone for long. And while they are, they are comfortable watching tv or listening to the radio. They have food and water and all their toys. We make sure to walk them several times a day and are never out unattended. They are very well taken care of. We treat them like royalty. They actually love traveling and do very well. They do better with us than without us. We don't have to burden anyone or pay lots of money to board them. We love sharing the country with them. This allows us to take vacations and extended ones, too. Our RV is the best purchase we have made. This is a wonderful country to explore.

First I'll be clear, I love animals, and my 2 year old shelter rescue mutt is my best friend (maybe next to my wife) - he's lying here sleeping in the easy chair in my study, waiting patiently for me to go to bed. I have nothing but respect for any responsible pet owner.
The post I quoted made the statement sound as if it was an indictment of all kennels. I feel for any pet owner who loses a loving companion (as probably all of us have at one time or another) - it leaves the house so empty and quiet - but I would never use that as an apparent blanket condemnation of a necessary and generally responsible service.

When we get to a park or when we get new neighbors we go for a short time. The dogs are always in their kennels and we leave the radio on to muffle outside noises.
When we return I ask the neighbors if they heard our dogs bark. Only had 1 say yes and he said it was for about a minute and then nothing.
As someone said it is bad owners not bad dogs. We also try to take them to the dog park to run and get tired so they sleep when we are gone.

Getting away from dogs and back to CG rules.
The one that really gets me going is the age 55 up rule. Yes, I understand it's supposed to make for no kids hence less noise. HA!! It doesn't work. Too many liquid fueled campfire sessions that extend to past quiet time.
Then there is the rule that you aren't supposed to start and idle your engine while you decamp. HA!! Ignored by way too many. Five minutes or so - OK, 30 to 45, now you have me really upset especially if you are next door and it's just beyond sunrise plus you are yelling at each other to be heard over that thumping diesel at high idle.
I seldom bother reading CG rules. We are quiet and watch our TV inside, don't clean fish where we shouldn't, don't stay up late with a smoky campfire, don't wash our 5er at the site, clean up and dispose of our dog's poo properly plus keep them quiet, don't speed, don't keep a messy yard while at our usual summer site, don't dumpster dive (unless there is something really interesting to check out ) etc, etc, etc.
What I'm saying is that we try to be good campers and leave nothing but tire tracks on the road when we leave.

Dogs generally don't bother me, I have two. What really frustrates me is clueless parents that let their 2 legged children run amok. Just because someone is camping is no excuse to quit parenting.

Best one I have seen:
Oregon State Parks considers all CG road to be part of the state highway system and thus enforce the state under age 16 bicycle helmet law. A camper argued with a ranger that his kid (5+/-) did not have to wear a helmet because he was riding a tricycle and the law only mentions bikes. He also knew for sure because he was cop.
