This writer, in all his articles, has nothing good to say about RVs. Why does he even bother?

Here's the BAD NEWS. I have a 2013 Itasca Suncruiser with the dreaded "Schwintek Broken Slideout Club" membership. How in the world has this HUGE failure rate not only throughout the Winnebago line but also other manufacturers gone without a recall !?!?

A NHTSA Safety Recall is a "safety-related defect or noncompliance with a Federal motor vehicle safety standard"
What is a Safety Recall? | Safercar.gov | NHTSA

Non-safety, Quality Concerns (like a slide drive failing to open or close, while the RV is stopped) would not quailfy.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The issue that I personally do not understand being allowed to pass uncorrected - without a Recall is the now discontinued Trimark 60-650 motorhome door lock.
The lock is in hundreds, if not thousands of motorhomes...and the latch bolt can shear inside the lock and fail to operate...leaving the egress door latched and unable to open...with occupants INSIDE.

We changed our door lock before a failure, and remain stunned that there was never a NHTSA Recall...if it fails during a coach fire or similar situation requiring egress...somebody is going to perish

If you have a Trimark 60-650 - personally, we highly recommend replacing it:
TriMark Locks for Sale

This should NOT be confused with the Trimark 60-1650 that replaced the 60-650

Safe travels

If you compare the 20% increase in recalls to the latest rv shipment figures which are up by 13%, the difference is not as great. I would be willing to bet if you compared it to actual sales figures, there would most likely be no net increase by the time we have final figures for the year.

You mean to say no net %age increase? If the sales numbers go up, the recall numbers will go up, and that should be a 'net' increase. Being picky here...
At any rate, more sales, more poorly constructed RVs, more recalls.........
