I'm a little afraid of taking the screws out to put in shorter ones, because I don't want to weaken the strength of the awning, it is secure.

Exactly my point if the awning is secure leave it alone.
A loose awning is a much bigger issue than 1/2" too long screws.
While the fix is simple the fix is not foolproof and could easily make things worse. Again get creative hang a shower shelf over or around the bolt to disguise it.

Or rubber caps to cover the screws.

RVTAA.ORG Member?

If this mobile tech is a member of the RVTAA.org association you can go to their website and levy a complaint; the association will follow up on it. In the mean time, this should be dealt with. I'd recommend a visit to the RVTAA.org site and find a mobile tech in your area to have the repairs done by a professionally trained and insured mobile tech. Holes that are not properly sealed will cause water damage. If the tech drilled through the walls to the inside, I suspect the tech did not seal the holes properly.

Check with your insurance company to see if they'll cover the damage. Barring that, there's always the small claims court option to get the "repairman" to pay for the cost of real repairs.
