RV stolen in Lakewood Colorado

Obviously his “garage” Is a large shop separate from the house with its own entrance and locked gate. He may even sleep with a CPAP.

That being said it would have to be someone associated with someon that knew the layout. Not an inside job so to speak But somehow associated with someone who has worked on the property before.

That’s why I’m very hesitant to have anyone on my property doing work. It just opens you up to being cased for future theft. I have lots of trailers and motorized toys and tools that I do not want just anyone knowing is on my property.

This might sound insensitive, but the RV is just an inanimate object that can be replaced. Assuming the owner has adequate insurance, he should recover his loss. Yes, I know it won't cover personal or sentimental things, but the thieves could have broke into the home and done real or personal harm. I have a hidden battery disconnect switch on a couple of toys, but if someone is determined to steel them, they probably will. My son has a two stage alarm on his building that houses his Newell, enclosed trailer, tractor, Snap-On tools and some toys. If the door is breached, the police are called and any movement inside will set a off loud alarm. It's sad that that we have to go to extremes to protect out valuables, but that's the world we live in today.

To me, it would be as much about putting thieves behind bars as it is recovering property.

There was no mention of keys....were they in the ignition? We travel with a couple who religiously lock the door, and leave the keys in the ignition.

After reading about all the security features he had, I wonder why he didn't have a simple fuel-disconnect on the MH. Some DP's even come factory-equipped with a manual emergency stop button//fuel cut-off in the engine compartment.

I was guilty of doing the same. Just changed that bad habit. Was leaving a single key in the ignition. Of course my rig is 21 years old, not worth quarter of a million dollars.

Yep, we're staying in a hotel while our coach is in a body shop.

The ignition switch on ours can be removed in 30-ish seconds and hot wired. But the notion of a hidden kill switch is very interesting...

Most of us with a DP do have a semi-hidden kill (disconnect) switch in the engine bay. Might slow someone down a bit. Caterpillar makes a good one with a key.

How does one start a newer DP without keys or a FOB? I don’t believe there is a way. Keys were probably used which is the main problem. Sad nonetheless.

Had a large boat once where the previous owner put in a starting system where the keys would not start the engines. The keys had to be turned on but he put in hidden starting buttons in the engine room. Could not see the buttons but had to reach around some beams and feel for them. Never bothered me for I always went to the engine room to check fluids and such before starting. Interesting g take though.

Actually, today's fob equipped vehicles are even easier for thieves to start than ever. Just ask any 14 year old with a laptop. The new generation of car thieves actually prefer them as they are an easier target than a traditional keyed ignition.

This doesn't relate to RV's, but we had a rash of car 'break ins' recently. The reports were that the cars were left unlocked with thing like laptops and cell phones in plain site. These were not 'break ins', they were open invitations for someone to help themselves. One actually had the keys laying on the floor. Our car is always locked inside in a locked garage. My truck is locked in the driveway. If someone breaks in and opens the door, the horns start blaring.

Motion lights outside the garage are also a good deterrent.
