Great campground, there is something very relaxing about the delta when the son starts to go down. We always stayed at Tower Park, but later looked for other places. We burned a LOT of fuel on the delta over the years.

Yep. Had the "pleasure" of watching the Oak Fire start from a mile or so away from our house. Watched the big DC-10 drop fire retardant and make multiple very low-level passes for a couple of days. Plus, helicopters dropping water on the fire.
We left on vacation just as the wind changed and smoke started hitting our area. Just in case we left with valuable papers and photo albums.
But it's hunky dory now. Here's how it started . . .

We spent a week at Malibu RV campground in January. We noticed a lot of rv's parked along PCH, but they allow parking all day as long as you leave at a certain time at night. It did not appear that any we saw were there for the long haul. We did notice in certain areas of LA large RV encampments.
Seems old rv's are the go to for the homeless and near homeless in the area. I don't think it is all that new, I recall it being mentioned in The Overlook by Michael Connelly written in 2007.

I feel this down deep. We live in Sonoma County and since 2017 we've seen some terrible fires firsthand. We've been evacuated a few times but thankfully haven't lost any property. We have many friends who have, mostly in 2017. One of my closest friends is still waiting for her rebuilt house to be finished.
Despite the fire threat, we love living here. I have Lake Sonoma, a COE site literally in my backyard, and I'm an easy hour's drive from some of the most beautiful coasts anywhere. The redwoods are magnificent. The outdoor possibilities seem endless.
I'm a Southern boy, born in Washington DC but raised in North Carolina. We'll be leaving CA next year and we'll both miss it. No regrets.

Grew up in L.A., near LAX. My family did a lot of skiing at Mammoth and backpacking in the high Sierras.
I moved to PA 20+ years ago. I do appreciate the quality of life here and the cost of living - we've been able to do things we never could have afforded in L.A.
That said, there are a number of things I miss about CA, but most especially the wide diversity and beauty of the natural environment there. If you've never been, you really owe it to yourself.

California has a dearth of good RV parks and virtually none in LA County.
There are some good ones north of San Fransicko but only a few between there and LA.
California has by far the highest poverty rate in the country at just shy of 25% when corrected for the cost of housing! Yup, one out of four.
That's just a fact, not an opinion.

Your source?
I'm seeing a poverty rate of about 13% for CA ( https://worldpopulationreview.com/st...-rate-by-state)
According to my source, Mississippi has the highest poverty rate of about 20%.

It's called the Supplemental Poverty Measure. It adjusts for geographic cost of living differences. It is used by the US Census Bureau as a more realistic assessment. Yes, Mississippi is poor but it's easier to be poor there. Have you looked at rents or the price of gas in California lately?
I will refrain from making a snarky comment other than I'll be happy to discuss Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium economic models with any of you.

Beautiful state but how anyone affords to live there is beyond me.

Read a lot of the comments/posts!
LOLOL Lots of folks still drinking the Kool Aid and I’m thrilled to know that they are happy and planning to stay there! Me? Born n’ Raised there and having lived all over the USA, I would never go back to the craziness that exists there! So many amazing places in our beautiful country!!

The mobile homeless are destroying the ability to RV in California especially if you have a rig older than 10 years. Everyone thinks you one of the homeless, cant park at a store to get supplies, pull over to enjoy a site, what ever.
I honestly cant wait till February to leave California and head back to the United States.

'Hotel' California
Wife is a native norcal lady. I moved to Bay Area from Massachusetts in 1980. We both worked and played in California since and love it. We decided in 2012 we'd hit the road in our Pace Arrow and see what's out there as an alternative place to relocate. What we found is, there really isn't anywhere we traveled that we preferred over central CA (foothills near Sac). We were gone 8 months and covered a lot of territory from the southern states, up the east coast, inland a bit to the Smokey Mts, through New England, the Adirondacks, and the Great Lakes, and back through Wyoming, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Glacier Nat'l Park. Not much time in the central part of the country. Of the places we traveled, the only place we'd consider relocating would be the Asheville and areas west of there (Maggie Valley). All other places, either the humidity or the bugs, or both are an issue. In CA, hardly any bugs, weather is predictable most of the time and moderate. Are there issues living in CA? PLENTY! But, hard to beat weatherwise. Every kind of environment is readily available, ocean, flatland, foothills, mountains, and dozens of micro climates. And great for RV travels. Lots to see and do.
