Anyone have any experience or know if this is indeed true? Either way we are coming out ahead after getting $25K more!

If you already completed the sale then I don't think there's anything you can do.
For the next time, talk to the dealer you're buying from. I had several tell me that they would act as your agent on the private sale so that it shows as a trade-in on the order for the new coach. They need to handle the paperwork, but they don't charge much (if anything) for it.

Delaware also allows credit for a vehicle sold in a separate transaction, up to 60 (or 90, as it says in another place) days before or after the vehicle purchase. (Delaware doesn't have a "sales tax" on other items, but does charge a "document fee" of 4.25% on vehicle purchases.)

I say completed sale, but really I have a signed contract and a non-refundable deposit until we actually close on the deal. The buyer is actually going to let me keep the coach and continue to use until my new one is ready to pickup in November. So the sale of my existing and purchase on new will be within a week or so. I did inquire with dealer but they said due to liability they would have to do a complete inspection and note if anything was found which nothing should, but just in case I didn't want it to be a deal breaker. I have existing coach free and clear so should be pretty easy of just getting wire transfer of remaining funds and signing title over come closing time in November.

Some Florida DMV clerks are very helpful and willing to research applicable rules/laws for you. Others, maybe not so much. In my county, the County Tax Collector's office operates DMV services and they are highly service-oriented. In another county I'm familiar with, it's the opposite and hard to get the clerks to even do their job efficiently, let alone help. They seem to view the residents as the enemy!
I've lived in Florida for 40 years and never heard of a credit for sale tax on a private sale, but that doesn't mean there is no such thing.

An update, I just went to my local tax collector office and they verified you can't get sales tax credit if selling private in separate transaction from new purchase at dealer. Oh well, worth a shot! FYI, this is for Florida.

Here is my expensive tip. NEVER pay even money for a purchased unit. Years ago I bought a RV for $20,000. Had I paid/claimed a penny less the taxes would have been $250 less. Live and learn!
