School Bus Conversions

Surfing YouTube today I am amazed at how much effort and money people have put into converting a school bus into a MH.

Does anyone here have such a conversion?

I would like to see some pics.

I have no interest in owning or doing a conversion myself, but I do like the ingenuity and engineering that people have put into their conversions.

iRV2 has a forum dedicated to various types of bus conversions, from "schoolies" to Prevost and Gillig conversions.

It's hiding under the truck conversion heading and not obvious at all.

Good luck and safe travels!

I agree that it economically does not make sense. I wouldn't do it, it's just not for me. I had a neighbor once that did one. I thought he was taking it on the road but instead he got up early one Saturday and proceeded to work it sideways up against his house. When he was as close as he could get out came the saw and he opened up a door to he house. It turned out to be a room addition, not an rv/camper. And yest,m it was a terrible eyesore addition to the neighborhood. That was 15 years ago and it's still there. he has a wood stove in it and it can be seen smokin away on cool nights.

There's a YouTube channel called Bus Grease Monkey. He travels around the country in a converted Greyhound and works on the engines of other peoples buses. Big ones. Big Detroit diesels. He shows some rough stuff with high hopes by someone. Not very many would be anything I would be driving down the road.

20-30 years ago you'd see some but during our 16 years of full-timing and traveling constantly, we've never seen a school bus conversion.

The Off Grid Skoolie has some very impressive work done to it. A ton of time has been put into it, and I'm confident it will eventually look pretty dang good. In the meantime, he has a very rugged setup for a modest amount of money, and likely better parts availability.

Kinda like buying a class A, B or C motorhome, 5th wheel or travel trailer.
