In a 30 footer??? why even take a toad. I have a 36' and hardly ever pull a toad, I can get most anywhere I need and have my Motorhome right there with me.
If this is a vacation, any resort, park, or attraction will have bus parking and you have your conviences are right there with you. A 30 footer will get in and out of any mall, and many resturants have truck parking nearby. Or just take up 2 to 4 parking places. You arent much bigger than a UPS van.
I vote scooter if anything.
Now a 40' Motorhome is a different story, they are hard to get around in and a toad is necessary.

I've been across the country 3 times with only a 250 Honda Elite or my current 150 Asian scooter. We (myself and my wife) drove the 80 mile loop around Lake Tahoe with the 150 and there is a lot of elevation change too. I agree with Stogie that with a 30 footer you only need a scooter. You see more when on the scooter and it's easier to park too.

+1 on an older Civic/Corolla/etc. beater toad. Don't have to worry about it getting damaged from road debris being kicked up by your MoHo.

The option I use because I have been riding motorcycles for 45 years is a small "Dual Sport" bike. Weighs 300 lbs, gets 70 MPG, insures for under $100 a year, and carries 2 people with no problem. I can back up the MoHo without disconnecting it. It also allows me to go where no 4 wheeler can.

Yes, rain gear is necseeary.

(Pink gloves are optional)

Lots of fun on back roads, because you can pull off anywhere you like.

My HHR weighs 3150 lbs full of fuel. Tows 4 down with no mods or restrictions except keep it under 65. It is also my every day car.

Overheating at speed can mean:
  • the water pump is weak - can't supply enough volume at speed
  • the water pump is cavitating - it's worn out
  • coolant level is low
  • coolant flow is restricted somewhere - check the radiator, thermostat, water pump
When the engine is running hot the oil will thin out. Pressure drop can be caused by:
  • clearances on the bearings are excessive (worn out engine)
  • clearances in the oil pump are excessive
  • normal operation for really thin oil

I would suggest a small car. Our last toad was a Chevy Tracker. Had 4 -wheel drive and was under 3500 lbs. With our MH and the V-10, it was hardly noticable and gas usage wasn't that much more for the added convenience of decent transportation at our destination.
