Sears treats their citizen-soldiers well so I tried to give them some business. The results are as follows.

Took my MW/Convection oven to Sears service for a 59 sec. cycle problem.

Received a verbal repair estimate of $412 a week later. Estimate included a $350 central processing unit (CPU). Told them I would research cost of new item prior to authorizing repair.

Discovered a new unit could be bought for as little as $555 including shipment. Also discovered that Sears parts retails the CPU for $161.

Denied repair and requested unit be shipped back. In the meantime, based on their diognosis, I ordered a CPU from a different vendor ($155 shipped).

Two weeks later, I received my MW and replaced the CPU. It didn't fix the problem. Did some checking and discovered a bad dampner motor. Replaced same with a $12.86 new one which solved the cycling problem.

I now have a spare CPU if ever needed.

Shame on Sears. If I would have authorized repair, I would have paid $412 for a dampner motor.

You might want to use this form to register a complaint with Sears, I doubt they were intentionaly trying to cheat you. Probaly was an incompetent technician who misdiagnosed the problem and by sending the form they might be able to retrain the tech so it doesn't happen again.

Unfortunatly a lot of companies have to rely on their technicians being able to troubleshoot their products correctly, the skill level has declined greatly in the past 20 years. I've seen this in the constuction industry as well. Union, non union, does not make a difference anymore. Nobody seems to take pride in a job well done anymore, just getting that paycheck at the end of the week.

This "59 second" problem has been around a long time. Based on a Sears tech. suggestion, we replaced the unit at a cost less than replacement of the "board"/CPU. Never looked at the problem relating to the exhaust fan. Will next time. So far, no additional problems....

Sorry to hear of your experience. Guess you forgot the conclusion of this thread that you were part of back in September 07. The 59 second problem then was ultimately resolved with a damper motor replacement too.
