You can take bear spray in/out of Canada. It just has to be bear spray with a picture of a bear on the can. And it is a big can. Eww have ours in the closet tight inside the door of our RV.

Two things I do:
#1 If Wally Docking, I'll lock up all 3 bikes and also my two inflatable kayaks in my truck bed.
#2 If I'm leaving the campsite, especially a boondocking site, I will lock my portable solar panel to my RV trailers bumper.
Otherwise We don't camp in "seedy" spots. 90% of the camping we do is state or national parks and in the 30 years of camping we have never had anything lifted or had to worry about "bad" people. RVer's tend to watch out for each other.

We have been camping for over 30 years, never had a single instance where we felt our lives were in danger. Once our friends had a cooler stolen that was left outside unsecured.
I would not want to be around when some panic stricken gun owner is wildly firing his/her gun, who knows what they will hit!

Let me tell you about my guided tour at Yellowstone. They gave us bear spray and a bell necklace while hiking. The bell was to not startle the bear so he knows you are in the area. As we were walking the ranger suddenly said ' be careful there is a bear in this area' How do you know? I asked. 'There is fresh bear scat'. How do you know it is bear scat?
" The scat has bells in it and it smells like pepper!"

I have chosen not to be a victim. BUT as in an earlier post, situational awareness is your best weapon. if it feels hinky, move!! Avoid confrontation. I recommend you only use a weapon if you feel life is endangered. Let them have stuff. It can be replaced. Even if you are exonerated, some jurisdictions are full of hassle for using a firearm. BTW, you can have a firearm in a national park, but is is a crime to discharge it. Go figure.

It is a crime to discharge it yes . But it is not a crime to defend yourself .

I have never had a need to use a fire extinguisher or smoke alarm , I've also never had a seat belt save my life . I guess I don't need those either .

I'll bet when bears hear those tinkling bells, it really means, "Snack Time", or "Dinner is coming down the path", or "Chow time for the cubs".

Not saying 100% are cowboys but you would be surprised at the people that carry the focus of the situation try to advocate a peace full out come , would not say panicking
