I have an RV for sale and shared the info as an ad on this site's "For Sale" section. I was contacted by someone on this forum who acted like he was very interested but insisted I run a VIN report from only a site that he specified. I offered to run a Carfax report, but that was declined. He aid he would pay full asking price (without seeing the RV). When I told him I wasn't paying to run VIN report from the site he demanded, I never heard from him again.

Scammer?

Probably scammer, especially because of the pay full price without seeing it part. Sad to hear it happens on IRV2 classifieds. We hear of this happening on Craigslist all the time. What site did he want the report from?

Sadly this happens, even here. If it smells like a scam it probably is. Use the same caution you would anywhere else.

Scam, the goal is to get you to buy the “VIN Report” from the website the scammer is pushing you to. Once that site has your credit card number then the fun begins.

IMPORTANT

Any time you suspect a scam, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of every web page and let the Help Desk know the email address you were contacted from and any other recent suspicious emails. Scammers are using shills to contact a seller, then passing the email back to the scammer. It's the shills and the scammers both we need to weed out.

It did not have to be a member of irv2.com. Anyone with a computer, tablet, or smart phone can read this website, but not enter any information until they sign-up.

The irv2.com site-team is very good at their jobs, talk to them if you are contacted again.

Just for clarification, no one can contact a seller unless they are a registered member of the forum. The initial contact is through the forum similar to a PM, but once contact is made and the seller replies the "buyer" will have their email address.

UNLESS the seller advertises their email address in the add/in the clear.
