You have two options for your toad. You can sell as an already set up toad to the RV community, or remove the hardware (baseplate etc) and market it just as a regular car. Marketing it as a toad will necessarily limit the potential buyer's pool, but should increase the value to a potential RV buyer if the towing setup was of professional quality. Notice I say professional quality, NOT professionally done. They're not necessarily the same.

I have set up three vehicles up as toads, and the quality of the work is "professional" or better. I've seen some really botched jobs over the years, many done by "professional" shops.

Anyway, the IRV2 classifieds are a good place to start. Post your toad in the section specifically for toads. List any optional equipment that goes with it, like baseplate, tow bar if included, type of braking system, type of lights (separate or integrated with the toads factory wiring).

What type, age, mileage etc are you selling? PM me if you don't want to list the specifics on the thread.

Good luck in selling! Take care,

Selling a toad.

Specifics are not permitted in the open forum nor are requests to send them via PM. Please use the classifieds for this purpose.
Our Community Rules do allow a seller to post a link to their classified listing here with a VERY brief description of the item.

Sorry Cliff, I was merely trying to help a forum member with his question. I asked him for more info so I could hopefully steer him to a venue where he could list his toad.

We probably will want to sell our toad this winter and get a Jeep Trailhawk. However if i remove the tow equipment, tow plate, brake system, lighting system it will still look modified as it required some grill modification for the install. I am sure this will "hurt" in the open market so we will probably just list it here and other RV sale sites. It does certainly cut down on the number of potential buyers.

Listing it as a toad can be a "Catch 22". An educated car buyer, who doesn't want to use it as a toad, will realize that it could have 20000 more miles on the drivetrain than the speedometer shows.

Unless it's a very popular toad, like a Jeep or CRV, you may not get much attention. Usually, modifications to the front spoiler/air dam or things in that area, typically don't stand out of you remove the gear. The base plates can often be sold on Craigslist.

Professionally done and professional quality are certainly two different things.
I bought a '14 CR-V from a friend that was set up professionally. I ended up redoing the brake and electrical, including the battery shut off.

I advertised my old toad, a 2013 Fiat 500C convertible with Blue Ox base plate and Blue Ox 6 pin connector with towing tail light and charge line additions, on irv2.com classified section after doing research on what it's "standard" trade in value was. Sold in about a week. Did about $ 600 better than what I could have sold it for to someone who did not care about the base plate.
