Selling our current 40' Monaco Cheetah Safari
I'm interested in finding the best site to list our RV. I've been to RVTrader but was wondering if there is a better site that others have found. We hate to sell but it's just too big for what we need and 2nd half will not drive it. We're looking into a smaller class C. Thanks for any information that may help

As a potential buyer, I'm looking at ads almost daily. The listing sites that I seem to go back to over and over are RVT, RVtrader, and oddly enough -- Craigslist, and PPL. I have no idea of the costs or terms of listing on these sites, but they're good entertainment as I wait like the wily halibut for the proper bait to present.
POP and campingworld are a lot like dealing with Nigerian princes in terms of the communications. I think they're handled by robots. If I get answers at all, I can count on zero questions answered over six emails. I've even outright accused the writer of not reading my emails -- and gotten no comment. I can't even determine if their listings are genuine or not. I come away from them feeling a little creeped out.
One thing to consider is trading the Monaco against the class C you're after. You might get more cash out of an outright sale, but marketing and selling a motorhome doesn't appear to be a hobby for the faint of heart. You can get a sense of the time it takes to attract a buyer by the number of June listings that show the bus in snow. I encounter many units that have been languishing for a year or more. In the meantime you still need to feed and house it, . . . + the class C . . ..
All strictly $0.02

A minor point to consider is sales tax. In our state and some others if you trade with a dealer the sales tax on the new rv is less as the value given for the trade is deducted from the new one. That makes a private sale less attractive. You may still come out ahead going private, but after doing the math, we decided it was not worth the trouble and risks.
I am sure the dealers got the politicians to pass this law but it is what it is.

I would list it in the free Classifieds here on IRV2, in RVTrader.com, and possibly Craigslist. If you do use Craigslist just be prepared for all the scammers that will contact you! Put lots of pics on RVTrader.
I would put the following statement in all the ads: "I can only accept a direct transfer of funds between your bank and mine, NO EXCEPTIONS!. That's the only safe way!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

Make your last trip with it down to PPL in Texas. We sold our motorhome within a month to a couple who flew in from Florida to buy it. No haggling with price. We put the selling price on it ourselves - higher than what PPL suggested and we got what we asked. It was a very easy process. PPL gets a LOT of traffic looking for RVs. Then you don't have to deal with prank telephone calls, no shows and just inquisitive lookers.

Another IRV2 member asked about selling his coach.
This is my reply:
With some effort you can sell your coach. We've successfully sold several coaches.
Have someone take a series of pictures starting from the entry door working around the outside of the coach. Then take inside pictures from the entry door working your way back to the rear. Use something better than an old cell phone for the pictures!
Then look at some of the similar ads and write a descriptive ad outlining the positive aspects of your coach. Make sure you list the make, model, length, engine model, and mileage. Also list any recent improvements or servicing.
Look up the NADA value and make sure your price is in the ball park. Also search the classified ads of coaches like yours (plus or minus one year) and compare your price.
List it on this forum, on RVTrader.com, RVT.com, and eBay.com.
Hope this helps.

Can you tell us about selling on PPL? How does it work?
